JD Drew to the Sox?

I'm not asking you to prove it... I'm asking you to provide some sort of evidence that supports it. Anything.

I've showed you that he played his best down the stretch in September when the Dodgers were trying to make a playoff run. Someone has showed you that a teammate of his believes he is a great guy.

What type of evidence would you like?

one guy bill mueller thats it .thats evidence that the guy is what most think he is a quiter and a baby .if hes such a great guy there should be a endless supply of people willing to sing nancy drews praises.why did he get the nickname nancy drew why?why would somone say such a thing about drew ?is it all just rumors ?.fractured left wrist on the dl from july 4 2005 thru the season ---sore right shoulder missed two games in may 2006------broken right pinkie dl june 18 to july 30 2001----------strained right oblique dl aug 9 to sept 2003 -------strained right quadriceps dl may 15 to june 29 1999 --------right knee tendinitis dl june 28 to july 13 2002-----offseason right knee surgery dl until april 20 2003-------strained left quadriceps three starts in august 2006 ---------chondromalacia of left knee five games in june 2005-------sprained left ankle dl july 8 to 27 2000----------strained left hamstring five games in april 2004 --------lower back sprain 12 games in august 2001-----------stiff neck three games in may 2004

I love that you ask why he got the nickname Nancy Drew while every single time to mention him you refer to him as such. obviously you enjoy the nickname. maybe other people really enjoyed the nickname too. sometimes nicknames stick because they're accurate, other times they stick because they're amusing.

Why do Yankees fans boo A-Rod, one of the greatest players ever?

When teams fail the fans and media look for scapegoats. Once a player gets targeted as such it continues wherever he goes until he wins. If the sox have another year like last year drew will take a lot of grief this year. if the sox win the division he'll suddenly be a consummate pro

One guy saying he has great character is more than the zero guys claiming he has bad character. The worst that I’ve heard about his character is that he’s too laid back… but that still doesn’t mean that he is a bad guy who will disrespect teammates. And maybe the Nancy Drew nickname is a rumor... Considering that the source of it came from an anonymous coach that could range from Joe Torre trying to make the guy look worse than he really is, or Charlie Manuel whose team still harbors resentment to Drew.

And I agree about the injuries. I think the concerns about his health and durability are much more valid than the concerns about his character. On the other hand, the only injury that caused him to miss more than a handful of games in the past three years was the result of getting drilled in the wrist by a fastball: an injury every baseball player would miss a lot of time for. Outside of that he has only missed a total of 18 games due to injury since 2003 (and I’m sure a handful of day-to-day injuries where he sat out). The JD Drew of 1999-2003 went on the DL 6 times in 5 years, while the JD Drew of 2004-2006 has only gone on 1 time in 3 years. While I still believe that he is an injury risk, I don’t believe that his durability should be as questioned as much as it was 5 years ago.

do you really think its zero guys ?wouldnt you agree most players that have somthing negative to say about a player are going to do so while remaining anonymous for obvious reasons .

What obvious reasons? Players have come out and said negative things about former teammates many times before without remaining anonymous. And even if they didn't want to reveal themselves don't you think we would have seen a quote from "an anonymous teammate"? I haven't even seen that.

most players dont come out and bash a player calling him a quiter and a baby .what obvious reasons ?cmon give me a break figure it out .how did drew get the name nancy drew if it wasnt his teamates ?

maybe an angry fan like yourself came up with it. maybe a radio host. maybe a teammate who hated Drew because his wife thought Drew was hot. hanging your hat on a nickname is kinda weak.

Did I say that most players come out and speak badly about a former teammate? No. I said it has happened before so if it were to have happened with Drew it wouldn’t have been out of the ordinary. And even if his teammates were cowards and wanted to badmouth him anonymously they could have done that without repercussions but they chose not to. So far the only person to say anything negative about him is an anonymous coach, who wasn’t a teammate, wasn’t one of his coaches, and wasn’t even in the Dodger organization.

Or it could be a complete media fabrication. The Boston media also says that David Ortiz wants Manny to be traded. Do you believe that too?

how do you know its only one coach and if that coach is anonymous how do you know what team he is from ?anybody with common sense would know it would take alot more than one person to get a person such a bad rap .this is just one of your sick message boards compitions.seek mental help .

Because the origin of the Nancy Drew nickname rumor came from "one big league coach", per a Gordon Edes article. They would have specified if it was a coach from the Dodgers because that would be substantially more telling than just "one big league coach".

And he doesn't have that bad of a reputation for being a quitter or a baby. He has a bad reputation for not being durable, being too laid back, and most people dont like him because his contract is enormous. There has never been much concern that he is a quitter or a baby.

wrong again there has been much concern agout him being soft and a guy who would rather sit then play thru injuries .most people dont like him because they dont want someone who is a quiter and a baby .most people could care less how much money he makes they want a guy who gives 100 percent and is willing to slam into walls for there beloved redsox .they want another dirt dog not a baby who gets a hang nail and takes himself out of the line up .drews reputation started in philly and it comes from multiple sources not one coach .

His reputation for being a quitter and a baby started in Philly? A place where he never played? Show me these multiple sources you speak of.

Oh, and heres a link to two of his former coaches saying that he'll do just fine in Boston and is a good person.
www.boston.com

Tony LaRussa:
"It will be interesting to see how much J.D. will enjoy the attention, but I don't think he'll be bothered. He's got a stoic kind of calm, where Edgar is just a sweetheart.''

Grady Little:
"Yeah, I think that the year that J.D. Drew had last year in L.A. speaks for itself. It was an outstanding year that he had there for us. He's a very talented player. He's got the ability to hit the ball out of the park. He plays good defense. He runs well. He is a good person."

And who says he has a reputation for being a quitter and a baby besides you? Show me an article, a quote from someone, anything that shows he has ever quit on his team.

And he didn't play in Philly because he didn't sign there. And he was on 4 teams in 5 years because Atlanta traded for him at the end of his contract with St Louis, and then he chose to sign with the Dodgers. Then he left the Dodgers because he wanted more money. Pretty simple.

He has a bad reputation for not being durable. Again, show me something... even unsubstantiated media speculation that calls Drew a quitter. I'm not trying to play a "sick twisted little message board game", I'm trying to get some evidence he is a quitter. If you can show me that I'll leave the thread.

He didn't play in Philly because they didn't give him the money he wanted. And Atlanta never traded him. At least look stuff up before you make completely incorrect claims.

And LaRussa has since clarified what he said in his book:
Asked about his past comments, particularly the questions he raised in Buzz Bissinger's book, "Three Nights in August," La Russa said: "My feeling at the time was that J.D. needed to push himself to be as great as he can be, because he's so talented he could play at a high level and still be better. That's your obligation as a coach, to get him to the max. But he's been gone since then, and he did well for Atlanta and he did well for L.A. To me, that's a matter of maturity, and I'm sure he's understanding more and more what he's capable of doing.''
