Predict a round 1 surprise on draft day contest

Pats draft CB Kyle Fuller to train for a year under Revis who very well could be a one and done rental.
You know me and Fuller, but I very much doubt he'll be there for us to pick. Unfortunately.

Sure lets use a 1 round pick on a dude whos gonna sit for a year, while Brady getting old. A QB might make sense, other then that.. pointless

I agree, I honestly don't care about Brady's successor right now, all i care about is loading this team up to win another Lombardi.

It depends on how high Gilbert and Dennard go both of whom I feel aren't as good as Fuller but are regarded by most as going higher. I think with the quality of corners in this draft some teams like Pitt, STL, DET, CHI, NYJ, CIN and SD could wait and fill another need. I'd look at Gilbert and Dennard and say are they that much better than Gaines or some of the other projected 2nd rounders? I don't think they are.

At 29, Pats pick the highest rated player remaining on Mel Kieper's board.

I don't think of that as a "surprise". In fact, if he's available when the Pats pick I will be *really* disappointed if they don't take him. What effort he plays with! (But see previous post about BB contrarianism.)

Manziel goes in the 1st to the...Cowboys.

I think most of the board moved and the entire mock nation moved off CB once they signed Revis and Browner so while it might not shock some I think the broadcast teams at NFLN and ESPN will be speculating almost everywhere else except CB.

The Media's wet dream.

I have a hard time imagining Manziel being available anywhere near where they'll be picking, so they'd likely have to move up significantly in my opinion. For some reason, many here don't see Manizel going in the top 10 picks, and I strongly disagree with that thought. To be honest, I don't think he'd make it past CLE at number 4, but who knows? They do have the 26th pick as well, so they may wait for their QB.

But when you consider how much rides on making the right choice of a quarterback it makes sense.

It's by far and away the biggest determinant of team success and committing yourself to a quarterback is at least a medium-term project before you find out if he really is "the guy". If you had two guys, one available in the top ten who has, say, a 60% chance of success, and another at 29 who has a 40% chance, you'd be crazy not to do whatever you can to take the first one -- the rewards of success and the penalties of failure are just so great that even first-round draft picks are small in comparison.

I think you really hit the nail on the head with these thoughts. While many will disagree on how good any of those QBs are, the fact remains that every year we see QB needy teams picking them early on. It's such an important position in a QB centric league.

Manziel is certainly worthy of a chance in my opinion, and even HOU is reported to be interested with the #1 pick between him/Clowney.I doubt he'll go that high, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he didn't make it past CLE at number four either.

Bortles put up the most impressive numbers out of any of the QB prospects in many of the drills that "Sports Science" put them through. Watching him thread the needle with ease 25 yds downfield with that kind of touch in 20+ mph winds was more than impressive. He actually had more than an 80% completion rate in those smaller nets, many times swishing them through with ease. My thoughts about Bortles changed a bit after watching those drills, so I'd have to imagine that someone will be pouncing on him in the top 12 picks as well.

Bridgewater is the one that I'm not nearly as sure of...

My guess is that Manziel drops to Buffalo and they take him.

For those of you who disagree with my post about this tight end class please show me a tight end class in the last decade that had a top 10 with more potential than this one?
  1. Eric Ebron
  2. Jace Amaro
  3. Austin Seferian-Jenkins
  4. Troy Niklas
  5. C.J. Fiedorowicz
  6. Colt Lyerla
  7. Arthur Lynch
  8. Jake Murphy
  9. Joe Don Duncan
  10. Crockett Gillmore

Gronkowki's and Graham's careers combined to through 2013 will be more than this entire draft class combined until the day the last one of them retires.

This is not even close to an impressive draft class. Possibly the most overrated in history.

And my pick is that Marquice Lee falls to 29 and the Patriot's select the first WR in rd1 since Terry Glenn in 1996.

I loved the 2 TE offense but that was a product of having 2 great TE's, there is no Hernandez to pair with Gronkowski in this draft, in my opinion. That offense won't be revived, at least not this season.

I do believe with the people who say McDaniels is more of a spread offense type of guy favoring 3rd WR over 2nd TE, assuming he has both to choose from. I also believe that Lee will be the best WR to come out of this draft class when all is said and done and would happily take him at 29, even though I believe we have bigger needs at interior OL and interior DL (future depth, assuming VW/TK are healthy this year should be fine).

Caserio on WRs: "What you don't want to do is pass on a good football player."

I really believe EVERY position is possible. Our roster is in pretty good shape pre-draft.

Gronkowski, Graham, and Hernandez came out of that class that is three players; one of them is out of the NFL and looking at a life sentence. Two players does not make a draft class, I am not disputing the greatness of those player that is without question but given this class has five tight ends likely to go in the top one hundred picks at the end of the day the quantity win out verse the quality of the 2011 class.

I think they like Manuel, and they used a top twenty pick on him last year so I do not see them drafting Manziel or any QB in the early rounds of this draft.

Jaguars do something stupid is a little too easy so How about the Texans take a OT.

Fuller is on the rise I expect him to go in the top twenty he might even overtake Dennard.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious, what part of "predict a surprise" don't you understand ? People are picking surprises, in other words something unlikely to happen and you are going through the thread serially disagreeing with them. I could see your disagreement if they were saying these things will surely happen but disagreeing with surprise picks is pretty lame.

There's a new regime in Jacksonville and this one seems at least half-competent. A trade out or Mack/Watkins seems almost like a given for them, unless they really like one of the QBs but I doubt it.
