Zolak excited about Crable, thinks he can contribute immediately

Don't know if anyone heard Zolak on EEI yesterday morning - D&C are out and they were talking football.

He said some notable things, but the one that most struck me was in the midst of being asked about Mayo, he made a point of mentioning that he thought Crable looked really good so far - and that he felt Crable could come in and help fill the void Rosie left as a pass rusher. He mentioned Crable could've been drafted higher and said that Michigan can often play players out of positions and that you can't just judge him by the production - and that he has a really strong frame.

It was nice to hear someone trustworthy and knowledgeable about football speak about Crable with high expectations for the upcoming season...

No one has ever questioned Crables upper body frame and stregth. What he needs to work on is his lower body because he is still a bit thin through his legs. He has the possibility to be a great pass rusher but he needs to bulk up a bit in some areas before being completely relied upon in the game ala Colvin. Mayo OTOH is already at that stage where he could jump in and play if needed to.

There's no reason he shouldn't be able to, I realize he wasn't a #1 pick like these guys but Meriman, Ware, Wimbley all had electric rookie seasons as 3-4 D pass rushers. No way am I saying Crable could be a starting OLB but as a pass rusher on 3rd down he will be a disappointment to me if he can't be solid as a rookie.

I believe the "if" has been taken care of already. He is needed to step in right now and play most of the time IMO. Let Bruschi, Hobson and maybe Seau fight it out for minutes.

Is this sarcasm? Or just one of the stupidest things I've read recently? Do you think offensive players don't know anything about defense? Give me a break. Especially QBs. Tom Brady knows more about most team's defenses than the defensive players on their team do.

I agree in reference to Crable - I expect Mayo as the 10th pick to contribute, but I think either Wheatley and or Crable will exceed expectations and be a contributor factor sooner than later.

With those three players, Mayo, Crable and Wheatley, the Pats targeted smart players with good work ethics, who can be put into situational roles, making them more likely to pay dividends in the immediate future.

I agree with all of the above - Crable definitely has skinny legs. But we'd only be asking him to pass rush situationally at this point, so he has time to build his lower body up.

I wanna know why people are sleeping on Woods still.
BB publicly praised the guy like he was talking about a special player not a guy on the bubble to make the 53.
BB knows that Woods is ready to take over the outside spot that Colvin held down with authority through his tenure.
At worst Woods will be a a beast on third down always pressuring th qb.
When he drafted Crable he said he reminds me of Woods.
That right there should let people know this Linebacker corps is gonna be more productive than people think.
Crable is a beast in the making he needs a year or two of seasoning I love the fact he came from Michigan I'm sure he will click up perfectly with Vrabel he already is friends with Woods.
BB is quickly gonna build chemistry between the mix of vets and the young guys.
As far as Mayo that man is a Seasoned vet inside the body of rookie incredible find, and trading down for him that is a move that needs to be given more attention.
As far as who's on the bubble i'm saying eric alexander he's nothing special.
As far as Redd and Guyton i'm still on record they both make the team maybe guyton on the practice squad but Redd will surprise people.

thats the problem with the majority of prople on this forum, they belive and read everything the media says, and posts almost everything the media says, my point was most dont know anything so dont take it as gospel what they say, especially zolak, who has no inside knowledge of a belichick run defense, i guess i just should belive everything, would that make you guys happy/

First off even the most expert opinion doesn't mean much with only minicamps to look at, but other than that I am not sure what your problem is with Zolak making a judgement on someones ability. That is what he is getting paid to do. I think we can all be happy to hear some good opinions about one of rooks without believing that this means he is the next coming of LT.

Jason Taylor is a bit thin. Now I'm not comparing him to JT, but if Crable can give half of what JT gives that will be great.

The team needs speed rushers and needs depth at that position too. Even if he's a one trick pony at first I'm fine with that.
