Carucci: Pats remain interested in Peppers

Dude, I heard Seymour's leg has fallen off. So if you think about it, the trade's not that bad...

I could see Woods and a second or Sey and a Third maybe.

Seymour is a better player than Peppers.

Seymour is a multiple time Pro Bowl 3-4 DE, Peppers has never played 3-4 OLB in the NFL

Why would you give up the better player PLUS another player or pick when you're going to be challenging for the title this year?

Richard Seymour and a second round pick for Julius Peppers would be a horrible trade. Listen, I want Peppers, but giving up Seymour is out of the question.

New England already got b****** slapped by KC with the Cassel trade, I don't want to see it happen again. Some reports are saying Carolina needs to get rid of Peppers, while there are other reports saying the Panthers want to retain him. However, Peppers does not want to stay and the Pats need to imprint that into the Panthers skull so the Panthers accept whatever is given to them. New England needs to put their foot down and tell the Panthers it's the #34 overall pick, take it or leave it. I can guarantee that the Panthers will fold, there's just too many reports saying Peppers is handcuffing them much like Cassel did.

Seymour will be gone regardless next year(He wants big money and i rather keep Wilfork than Seymour). Might as well get value for him and if this trade does happen we should get at least conditional 3rd for giving up seymour and a second rounder for Peppers!!

I would be so freaking p#ssed if that rumor was true. Seymour is a beast in so many ways, and is just as important as Wilfork. I don't want him going anywhere, and I hope Belichick feels the same.

First, I don't neccessarily think it is a bad trade. It could be the last second the Pats have. Also, we don't know if Seymour would be back next year or if Belichick even wants him back. He had a good year last year, but a mediocre two the previous two years. Belichick has been great at determining when it is the best time to let players go and he might decide it is time for Seymour to go. If there is a cap next year, it is doubtful that Seymour will be back in 2010.

Fair point.

Second, I still don't think the Pats got fleeced by the Chiefs. The Pats wanted to move Cassel by a certain date and they took the best offer available. Only two teams wanted Cassel and one of them would have to pull off a three-way deal to get the trade done which rarely happens in the NFL.

I doubt the rumor is true, but it isn't all that horrible.

The rumor was Denver was willing to part with their first round pick to get Cassel. That's why I think the Pats got a raw deal.

Their are 2 ways Seymour doesn't return to New England next year.

He doesn't want to return
The Pats don't want him to return

If 2010 is uncapped, money won't be an issue. If the Pats wanted to, they can sign all of their own free agents with ease.

Why a "die hard pats fan" would want New England to take it in the shorts the way they would in that trade is beyond me, but I guess it really does take all kinds.

He's been banned for over a year now.

This is true. Peppers does NOT want to play here but the Panthers want to keep him. I believe they are dumb.
IF we were interested in him; I would not give up more than a 2nd for him.
Carolina is strapped for $$ big time.

Glen Ordway on WEEI again said today that he is hearing whipsers about Peppers. I think this Peppers thing might not be that far off.

I've said it before, but considering the time it takes to develop player to play the OLB position in our 3-4, and that freak atheletes like Peppers only become available so often, if he is available, I believe BB will get him.

Also, BB has shown the willingness to pay big contracts to OLBs (colvin, thomas), so if Peppers can take a deal similar to those (90% of what an OLB would get on the open market, plus a discount for never having played the position, which could be made up in incentives), he'll be here.

Fair point.

The rumor was Denver ....

lolz

there are a lot of rumormongers in this thread.

I'm starting a rumor that tampa offered 3 firsts for cassel --- help me spread it, bro.

Posts like this on message boards are how rumors gain steam.

That's not remotely what Ordway said. He said he keeps hearing this Peppers talk (as in from national mediots) and if the Pats actually have $4M under the cap and could probably free up more if needed he wouldn't be surprised if a Peppers deal could get done. Had I called in asked him what we were supposed to use pay the rookies and PS and players 53 and 54 and in season injury replacements with after that - or how they'd free up more under an expiring CBA - he'd had sung a different tune... Glen and Co. do hear things. This wasn't something he said he was hearing (as in from sources...). They also have no grasp of things like the cap and they aren't ever inclined to do their homework where the details of things they are discussing are concerned.

your posts on peppers are buzzkillers lol, nobody knows whats going to happen so lets enjoy the ride there whether he ends up on the team or not.

On PFW yesterday, a caller from Carolina heard an interview with OL Jordan Gross of the Panthers. He was asked who the toughest DL to block is. The answer, in his opinion, was Michael Strahan. The reason was, during a recent game, Gross was holding his own all game against Strahan until he put a late hit on him, which triggered the animal in Strahan to come out. From that point on, Strahan mopped the field with him.

The reporter asked what it was like to block Julius Peppers and he said, that's an interesting question; I told Julius the other day that I looked forward to sparring with him in training camp over the next few months and Peppers replied,

You and I will play each other exactly once next season.

Hmmm...

Kinda "game of telephonish" but still, kinda interesting.

Man, I'm glad I'll soon be too wrapped up in the awesomeness of Boston until Draft day to think about this anymore....

Well, that means if true Peppers could go to any one of the AFC or NFC East teams or Minny or Arizona. Considering Peppers was also linked with the Cowboys and he said he would like to play there, that could me that is where he is going.

True. The 'Boys came up in their discussion, too.

We are playing Carolina once this season!!:D

I just wish I had some idea what the heck Peppers is trying to do. I don't understand his strategy at all at this point. Unless Carolina is really holding out for some ridiculous trade value.

You know what I find interesting about this Peppers stuff? The rumors won't die. After Schefter made those comments, I thought for certain that this was a dead topic. But now, I just don't kow. It is very INTERESTING that these Pepper rumors won't go away. Mo as much as I agree with you, part of me is starting to think that there "Might" be something to these rumors. Where there is smoke there's fire. The only thing that is keeping me from taking these rumors seriously, is our cap situation. WE DO NOT HAVE THE CAP ROOM to trade for or sign this guy. Where is the cap space going to come from?
