I have to admit that he did look good for a rookie, and the man appears to be HUGE. sort of a German Jevon Kearse.

Re: vollmer-impressive

I'm all for bumping this Sea-Bass thread! I'm really looking forward to this season....

I'm really liking our draft picks early on, should be great seeing them develop!

Re: vollmer-impressive

It's hard to say which rookie will contribute the most - mostly because so many of them are showing us signs. Good draft could push team to desired level. Miam.

The thing I noticed when I went back...Vollmer is pretty quick for a dude his size...

yeah, i want to say "pleasant surprise," but it really shouldn't be a surprise...

Maybe the funniest play I have seen in a while was when he went screaming up the field looking for someone to hit but came up empty. He sprinted 10 yards and then looked around like 'Huh?'

Moved well for a big man.

Re: vollmer-impressive

He looked quick in his little workout video way back. I think they stole a left tackle.

I have no problem with Light's work ethic, but i don't think he was ever a very good pass protecting LT. Graham was almost a lineman his last couple years and i think there have been deficiencies here and there since.

SeaBass seems like a natural who can only get better IMO.

I do think you are on to something there. :)

I liked this post a lot.... Well said.

Re: vollmer-impressive

Vollmer did look good against the Eagles. However, outside of maybe a few situational downs against speed rush teams, I think Vollmer will be riding the pine this season. My prediction is that next season Light is gone and Vollmer moves in to take his spot. While we're on the subject, isn't Light's contract up this year or is it Mankins?

Mankins 2009
Light 2010

Re: vollmer-impressive

Maybe we'll see him play some VOLLey ball with Freeney's helmet.

I'd settle for some Freeney pancake with some nice German Sea Bass on top. :D

On the defensive side we've gotten used to mayo on everything...

Re: vollmer-impressive

This draft is just filling all our heads with unreasonable expectations. I for one am ecstatic. Every once in awhile a team a team has a draft that just sets them apart from the pack.Rejuvenating is how I would describe this draft. To coin a new word: REDYNASTIFACATING!

I'd be scared spitless if Vollmer was replacing Kac or Light! Seriously scared. If Vollmer was a second year player I'd have him on my "disappointment" list. He flashes some solid talent, but he's slow out of his stance, slow getting out into screens and on pulls, and is raw, raw, raw. If I was confident he could clear waivers I'd try to land him on the Practice Squad.

That said, he shows promise, but he's at least a year away from being #3 Tackle. Depending on how fast he learns he might take some game reps in the second half, I'd expect him to be a game day inactive. If LeVoir remains on PUP then Britt would be my choice for #3 OT. Britt did not get many reps in the game, but he made O'Callaghan and Vollmer look slow and raw, the combo block he and Wendell executed on O'Connell's first snap was a thing of beauty.

While he did look stiff in space, there is no denying the power and reach he brings. I am hoping that he shows decent improvement by the last preseason game.
