I Suspect The Roster Is Almost Set

I think that 6 DL's is unlikely given the contract situations with Seymour and Wilfork and Warren's injury. However, the 7th DL could conceivably come from another team. Pryor is one my 53 now with what we have.

I agree 100% with your D Line thinking. BB was sniffing around Holliday and Carter for a reason and I think the reason listed above is spot on.

One of the primary points of depth is to be there in case of injury. We need to be prepared for the possibility of Bruschi being out for a few games. In that case, I'd want to have an additional linebacker, especially one who can play inside.

I'm not saying Ventrone or Slater could play his position. I'm just saying that the last spot on the roster (which is probably what we are talking about here, because I think Walter is a lock) is probably not going to be taking a lot of reps at their true position; they'll be purely STers. I haven't seen Lenon taking enough meaningful reps in practice or in the first preseason game to suggest he has a shot. Ninkovitch got a lot of reps in the first game, but it looked more like they needed a guy to fill in during garbage time than actually trying to get a good look at him.
It's not that I have no patience for veterans, I just haven't seen anything out of the guy. How patient was Billy with Hobson last year?

Tank looked really slow against the Eagles last Thursday night.

QB12

Agree. Personally, I don't think him or Bruschi (as much as it pains me to say it) make the final 53.

Also, Walter is a lock, no way do they carry just 2 QBs.

I agree that they bring 3 QBs, but I don't think Walter is a lock at all. I think he got so much playing time in game 1 specifically because they're not sure what they have.

That will be what I'm watching tonight, but if Lenon doesn't get out of the tub, Bruschi isn't going to be pushed. I'm interested to see if Alexander doesn't keep his spot and Lenon go his merry way, based on special teams performance, familiarity with the defense, and (hopefully) improvement. He's got the speed to be good in pass coverage, and could be a good backup for their nickel package and last resort ILB in a injury-depleted 3-4 look.

I think Pryor has shown too much not to make the final 53. There's no way he makes it to the PS if he gets cut, with all the teams playing the 3-4 out there needing depth at DT. I think that if Holliday or Carter were to happen that we would see Jarvis Green traded, not Pryor cut.

In all my time here I have never understood the concept of predicting the roster. It is never set and never will be. Belichick is always looking for a better 53rd player than the one he has. We'll have a final 53 for a day or so ... until we pick up a cut from another team and on and on it goes. I've never been a JAG kind of fan ... I could care less who the JAG's are. So who will be this years Billy "Yo-Yo Yates? Stay tuned:confused:
I just hope we move on from Maroney and Watson sooner rather than later. they are #52 and #53 on this team IMO.

Alexander should be familiar with the defense by now, since he occasionally gets a chance to view team mates making plays close up. If he could start to imitate what he sees, instead of observing offensive players zooming past him, then he'd have something.

He can definitely be frustrating, and after the last game I thought he was gone, but he made some nice plays last night. If he'd taken a moment to hesitate and line up the QB on that blitz, he'd be mentioned right next to Butler and Pryor (and Warren) as the bright spots for the game. Belichick likes his special teams, and special teams performance is the first responsibility of the 4th ILB.

Can't say I noticed him, but I'll take your word for it. We definitely could use another quick linebacker if we're playing a lot of 4-3 looks. I've asked about Lenon, because all I've heard is bad stuff, but it seems he's been injured.

Of course on this board a player can be injured, get no playing time, and still play badly somehow. It's an amazing phenomenon

Based on all the awful "performances" last night, I think that the final 53 is more unsettled than ever.

I don't think Wheatley is getting cut.

After the Chad Jackson debacle/recovery, Wilhite's improvement, and the recent DB acquisitions, I think it's up for debate.

Negative. Because they're not going to go into the season with four CBs.

Usually I agree with 50 players when most folks post rosters. With this one, it is only 49. Everyone has his binky. You have four binkies (players you rate higher than most do ). My changes

1) BRITT instead of YATES
We are NOT keeping 6 interior lineman and 3 OT's. We could keep 8 OL's with no Yates. More likely, we will keep Britt or O'Callaghan.

2) GALLOWAY instead of NUNN
I haven't a clue as to why anyone would want Nunn instead of Galloway.

3) WHEATLEY instead of VENTRONE
You want Ventrone as our #5 corner, as our dime back? Wheatley looked aweful, but Belichick is not ready to give up on him, even if he is inactive all year.

4) LENON OR NINKOVITCH instead of GREEN-ELLIS
If you want to make the case for BJGE instead of Morris or Maroney, then make it. I think the defense or special teams needs this last roster spot more than the offense.

After last night's game, I'm going to go on a limb and say that the chances of both Wheatley and Crable making the roster are about 50-50 right now.

So who did you have in mind to cut after their aweful performances? Wheatley? Kaczur? O'Callaghan who wasn't making the squad?

The last spots are being clarified not muddled.

MCGOWAN over TANK WILLIAMS
LEWIS and GALLOWAY ove NUNN

I'll take that bet. All three of Wheatley, Crable and OC struggled last night (Wheatley less so than the other two - he had good coverage most of the time just needs to be a split second quicker in recognition which hopefully comes with more reps/experience). However they are all young second year players...give them some time.

Please post when in the last DECADE Belichick has cut a 2nd year 2nd or 3rd rounder.

After last night's game, I'm going to go on a limb and say that the chances of both Wheatley and Crable making the roster are about 50-50 right now.
