Willie weighs in on leadership void

Nice read.. makes you really want the old Willie back,,, well,, not OLD Willie.

You know what I mean.:D

Not much to add to what Willie McG has to say. One of my all time favorite Pats.

Draft Carlos Dunlap and bring Willie McG back for one more year to teach him the elephant. I'd take that combo over Derrick Burgess and Adalius Thomas any day.

"My point is, it wasn't one guy, it was everyone. We knew, no matter what the situation was, everyone would put all personal, selfish things elsewhere, and put everything into putting the team first. We all understood that through team success, there'd be a lot of individual success. We bought in, and it came to fruition."--Willie

So who else besides Adalius doesn't get this? Is it everyone but Brady and Faulk? Brady and Faulk and Wilfork? and Welker?

Can't cut everyone.

Willie McGinest on Defense and Troy Brown on offense (and sometimes defense) were two of the main guys I could say came to play each and every game...how I miss them both (in their prime that is)

If Willie wants to come back and thinks he has one more year, then find a roster spot. We had plenty of 'empty spots' this year. He obviously won't be the same guy on the field, but off the field he will be.

the point abt bringing in seau vs willie is also interesting

Willie would have helped us ( atleast in the locker room ) this year. Not sure why it didn't workout.

The comments from Willie sum up what a team is all about right there. When I was reading the part about them all saying to each other they're not running here or there it gave me chills. All those guys, talented players with heart and desire all on the same page...that right there is a monster.

Ofcourse all good things must come to an end, but it doesn't mean you can't do good things again and it's something everybody has to strive for now.

Willy,Seymour ,vrabel and tom brady this year have said its the players that make the patriots and not the other way around.

BB has always brushed aside when it was ever mentioned it was the players and its is because of him and the patriots org.

which is true we will find out soon

That was a good read.

It isn't just about the leadership and attitude or just about talent. Those defenses he was talking about was overflowing with all of the above.

I'm not sure this current defense has a heck of a lot of any of those qualities.

I've personally never heard BB say it is him and the organization, not the players who were responsible for the winning.

Always will miss West Coast Willie!
IIRC, Willie's last game was vs. Denver...anyone recall the angry shove he gave Izzo in the waning moments? I don't remember the details....

I wish I could go back in time to enjoy those teams from the early 2000s again. I miss those guys.

BB has never said this, actually he always says exactly the opposite that it is the players. Don't cofuse what you hear on sports radio with fact.

This was a great read and it shows that it's always a team effort. Great players with work ethic, toughness, competitiveness and an ability to want to help the team and always show up and play well is what creates great teams.

absolutely... Dunlap is growing on me but is he "smart" enough to play OLB

After this year with the "character" issues, it really makes you wish for the old team back.

Which proves the lack of critical playmakers on both sides of the ball on the Patriots roster. The early decade Patriots, no matter how crap a game an individual player would have, when that defining moment came would step up.

please cite it when ? BB has ALWAYS said its about the players not about anyone else even when he won coach of the yr awards and went 16-0 etc.
