Reactions to the Jermaine Cunningham Selection

IMO, a better college player than Carlos Dunlap. Dunlap had all the tools, but Cunningham made more plays in bigger spots.

Cunningham is someone who flew under the radar to me, but it's a solid selection. He'll do good with us as an OLB. He can set the edge and rush the passer. Now all we need is for Crable to stay healthy.

Lets hope BB isn't getting the same snake oil sales job from Urban on these kids like he did on Chad Jackson :D

Too bad, there goes Damian Williams, my favorite WR for the Pats.

The more I see of him, the more I like him. If he's 266, wow, he moves like he's 230. No chest thumping bullcrap, he makes the play and doesn't over pursue.

He moves like a linebacker already IMO and can obviously add serious strength if he's really carrying 266 now, which I almost question because he is tight.

Needs a tight number, absolutely. Who was the tight number guy, remember him?

Seriously, I think I'm in love, in a manly football fan way.

He's quick as hell, but doesn't exhibit bull rush potential, but 266 without an ounce of fat? get him in the weight room.

EDIT: I'm also seeing him listed at 252, so maybe that corresponds with his highlights, but this guy looks agile and disciplined. I think BB pwned the pundits on this one.

Thanks for bringing some levity to Day 2 of the draft. ;)

I had to try. Crable would probably go on season-ending IR if he stubbed his toe.

I can't remember who the poster was, but he felt STRONGLY that Kool Aid needed a "tight number," and then was apoplectic that it ended up 39.

Of the 5 players picked, I'm least sold on Cunningham. Maybe we've been watching different tapes. The ones I'm seeing, he isn't especially strong, isn't good at sealing the outside, doesn't have great pass rush moves, basically is a JAG on the field. I LOVE the other 4 picked though, especially Spikes.

I feel the same way. However our resident Gator fans seem to think he's a solid pick. I'll give them and BB and Co. the benefit of the doubt. Here's hoping to him being a great player for us.

That's my feelings in a nutshell. I'm not enamored, but the folks here who have seen Cunningham the most like him the most. So I'm suppressing my Jeremy Mincey flashbacks and hoping for the best.

The way I see it is this. If you love Spikes, you're really going to love Cunningham. You have to assume Urban Meyer knows his players VERY well. And you also have to assume Urban told BB to take Cunningham first.

I still want Ricky Sapp or whoever from Round 4. We need two bites at the pass rusher apple.

Hahah, I surpressed those flashbacks as well. Patchick, as a fellow president of the Dunlap fan club how much did it hurt to pick his teammate, then see him go with the next pick. I was hurting quite a bit, but hey IBBWT. Between me and BB only one of us got to actually see these guys up close and personal.

He ran a 4.12 short shuttle. That's Demarcus Ware-level short area quickness.

Guys, this FL guy has been my binky all year and now I promise to be more upbeat! Turn on game tape to try and watch Spikes or Dunlap and all you see is Cunningham around the ball on every play. He is not the prototype height weight guy tyical of our OLBs necessarily, not Willys size by a long shot. Think a younger Tedi, hi motor big hitting ball hawk. Fumble maker. PLAYMAKER. You would have to think having Spikes and this guy together should play off of each other, and should both see significant situational LB duties this year. Last time I felt so strongly about a player was a couple years ago when Wesley Woodyard went undrafted....and now he is pushing for the starting OLB position in Denver. You cant replace drive and this guy should do well because of it.
