Why is it that when we eek out a win against the Jets, it is somehow an indication that we are not that good.

...but when Indy barely wins against the Jets, they are great and all the stories are about how they know how to find a way to win.... about great comebacks.... about being a good closer... etc.

Seems like a contradiction.

Bottom line: Jets don't suck and Indy (still undefeated) is overrated IMO.

Wow, I swear you beat to me to posting something very similar by like 2 minutes.

Completely agree! We handled the Jets to a 24-0 lead and sure, we had a very bad letdown with 17 unanswered points, but the Colts barely pulled that game out.

What I have come to accept is that the pundits in the NFL are just sick of the Pats and are dying for another team to take over their glory. They just hate the fact that we just won't go away and it is killing (most of) them!

Well the NFL pundits should get used to us because we are not going away.
Our team will simply get stronger next year and years to come with great players growing with the team.

Just one note here:

Colts had so many injuries they looked like a hospital ward in a war zone.
Jets should have won that game easily. Jets are good but need a lot of
work yet.

i think it is because the Pat's are not "MEDIA FRIENDLY" so the Media looks for any reason to knock them....good news is the Pat's seem to thrive on the disrespect,,,,,,The bad news is it is us fans who struggle with it.

This theory doesn't hold up since the media hated the Pats back when they weren't winning games, or when they had just started to win -- 2001.

I think it's a combination of things. First, whenever anyone is on top for a while, people always look for a chink in their armor. Second, if the Colts had had a huge lead and nearly blew it, I think you would see the same critics spouting off about how poorly the Colts played. Third, the Colts needed to score 2 TDs in the final 3 minutes and they did it. And JR4 is correct...

...did you see the Colts' secondary? BTW, why are you worried about what people think about the Colts' win? Souldn't you be basking in the drumming the Pats just laid on the Bengals?

The Colts should be 2-2 but they are not, they figured out a way to win. I do believe that they are the beneficiary of some of the most idiotic play calling I have ever seen. In the Giants game they had the ball driven down their throat but inexplicably the Giants would get to the 30 and forget how they got there. They pass the ball two or three times in a row and have to kick a FG. I won't even talk about the 3 dropped interceptions. The Jaguars did the same thing run and then get into the redzone and throw a pick. Keep running the ball until they prove they can stop it. Then the Jets in a tie game in the 3rd quarter go for it on 4th and goal from the 2 instead of taking the 3 points and the lead. Amazing! It isn't the Colts fault that they are on the winning end of these calls. Give them credit they are winning despite their horrid run D and all of their injuries. They better have that run D tightened up before November or the Pats are going to rush for 250-300 yards against them.

"The bottom line in this game is that the Colts won"

...

"The Colts, who showed the same heart and grit to beat Jacksonville in Week 3, continue to make a strong case to be regarded as the best team in the NFL."

we had "Franchise Rot", they have "Heart and Grit" ... got to love the media

the patriots have NO superstars and that includes Brady because hes not whoring every commercial on sundays. great players? YES, superstars? NO

Very Simple answer. The Pats are boring - they win boring.

The very same scenerio occured 2 weeks ago week.

The Patriots lost points for outplaying the jest for 3 quarters but yet winning.

The Giants were praised for playing just awful for 3 quaters and coming back in the last quater to beat Philly.

If coming back and winning close games is so impressive then why didn't the Pats get any praise when they were down against the Bills but came back to win it in week one? The media saw the game as a negative, saying how it shows the Pats aren't very good because that is a team they should beat easily, yet they see the Colt's similar version of that game as a positive for the team, showing heart and doing what it takes to win. Regardless of which team you root for, you have to acknowledge that the treatment of the two teams is not equal in the media.

The thing is the Colts game was back and forth. We jump out to a 24 point lead then within minutes the Jets score an easy 17 points on us.

The plays the Jets made against us were flukish, and flat out spectacular plays on behalf of the Jets. The Pats defense did not play well, but I don't think the scores they allowed were as bad as the Colts. Then defense just got flat out beat, play after play. The Jets weren't doing anything fancy. They have a terrible running game but it looked good against the Colts.

4-0 is 4-0. Since when does it matter how you win football games? NYG, HOU, JAX, NYJ. Granted HOU is a joke but beating the two NY teams in NY is an accomplishment. And JAX is one heck of a ball club. If the coaches cant coach... its the opponenets job to take advantage, which Manning and Dungy do very well.

Heck, Anybody beating anybody in this league is an accomplishment.

IMO.

This is exactly the point. Why were the Pats two first wins not very good iin the yes of the media yet the Colts last win doesn't great the same criticism because they say it is a win. The incinsistency and hypocrisy of the media is the problem being addressed, not the Colts win itslef.

That's not grit. Peyton's just got a little sand in the slot.

You cant just tell me the Pats are boring. Their offense isnt stacked up like the Colts or Bengals. But where the hell have you been the last three years? I've seen some pretty exciting games, including the playoffs.

I think what the poster meant is that they don't have the stare power or put up monster numbers, specifically offensively like some other teams do.

I think that it goes back to the fact that people look for a chink in the armor of the champs, or former champs in this case. I also think that the game between the Pats and the Jets effected the Colts game too. Before the Pats' game, most people thought the Jets were going to be pretty bad. After that game many people changed their minds a little, saying hey that nearly came back and beat the Pats they must be pretty good. So going into the game against the Colts people are thinking that the Jets are a better team than they were before the Pats' game. That and the fact that the Colts' game was really back and forth, not one team jumping up and then the other jumping back into it.
