Great Woodhead article in the...NY Daily News

Thursday Morning I almost started a "Lock Woodhead up" thread.

I had taped NFL network rewind of the Pats Colts game. There were two third down conversions that Wookdhead made in that game that he just had no business making.

In fact, in a few games the kid has converted third downs he had no business making.

I knew he was fast, but a 4.3 forty is insane.

As much as I love Kevin Faulk (He will be remembered as one of the great Patriots of all time IMO), at this stage in Faulk's career given his age, I think Woodhead brings a bit more to the table. And as much as it has sucked losing Faulk, Woodhead probably never would have gotten the oportunity without it. I can't remember whether we lost Faulk before or after Woodhead was signed, but I think Woodhead's options would have been limited with Faulk in there.

THis is a great signing. All this guys does is make plays, and big ones. I am so stoked this kid is going to be wearing a Pats uniform for atleast another two seasons!

Wayne Chrebet is my favorite Jet of all-time. Only likable one too. :p

I just love this kid as a football player. Reminds me a little of the kid from San Diego, Sproles (sorry spelling). I think he is a better player right now than Kevin Faulk. Also, he is so fun to watch... exciting player and a guy that's easy to root for.

How can you not love this kid. He's not only fast, but he has moves and strength. He seems like he's on the verge of breaking off a 60 yarder on every play. Love the way he plays. I remember reading a Sports Illustrated article about him during his senior year, and praying the Pats would take him. Living in NY, I saw him have a HUGE preseason game, had like 140 yards and 3 TD's, so I was shocked they cut him. Now I'm so happy he's a Patriot, hopefully for the next 10 years.

This is a real nice story, and gives hope to many of the kids in Div II... that there may be a life in the NFL for them.

Did not realize he had that much speed, knew he was quick, but not this quick.

That may be. All I remember is that I had Light down as a 2nd round pick for the Pats before that Draft. He's been an excellent player for the Pats and he picked up from where Bruce Armstrong left off.

Now, I can only hope that the Pats have a LT after this season who can continue the trend of excellence that the Pats have had at that position for the past 20 years or so..

they have an LT in vollmer. what they don't have is a RT (I think vollmer is out of position there and his play has suffered some this year because of that) until Kaczur returns or they draft one

Great piece, very interesting. One thing though. It mentions this:

Though he did not select him, Mangini called Woodhead's house during the last round.

"We won't be able to get you, but we want you," Mangini said.

"I'm coming," Woodhead said.

That implies Mangini called him during the draft. Is that even allowed if you don't own the rights to the guy? For all you know, he could get drafted in the next few picks.

Was this the Jets draft or a low budget porn film?

"Two days later, his father watched him play in person for the first time as a professional. In the stands, he saw a fan wear his son's No. 39 jersey and a hard hat with a block of wood hooked atop."

THATS MY DAD!!!!! Check out the pics of the Wood Head Hat he made and wore at the game! It was our first game in Foxboro in about 5 years, and everywhere he went the fans loved the "Woodhead!"
