Re: ESPN:Rushing, not passing, key to beating Pats

Wow, the article points out that if an NFL team runs for 180+ yards they will probably win. Thanks, I would have never guessed that.

By the way, the Jets ran for 152 yards Monday night against the Pats; how did that work out?

The cliche about needing to run X number of yards in order to win is probably a reversal of cause and effect. Too many of these analysts assume running well equates a better chance of winning, without considering the possibility that many times teams are running because they are winning.

Teams don't win because they are running; they run because they are winning.

They only needed 28 more yards to put up the necessary 43 points to beat the Patriots. That's my inference anyway ;).

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

I don't get it, where's the blueprint for the Saints, or Steelers, or Falcons? The Patriots are the only team that requires a coordinated and cooperative effort by the entirety of the NFL to come up with a viable game plan to beat them?

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

OMG! I hope the Packers don't see this blueprint or we are doomed. Doomed, I tell you. Doomed.

I wonder if they know all they have to do is go into Foxboro, rush for over 200 yards, and control the clock for 38 minutes of possession. I'm shocked the Pats opponents haven't figured this out. Lovie Smith and Rex Ryan must be slapping their foreheads and say, "Duh! Why did I think of that?" :rocker:

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

Kinda sounded to me like: you have to have a passing offense to outscore the Patriots. Or, you need a running offense to keep the ball away from them.

Great plan! :bricks:

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

5 keys to beating the Pats:

1. Play well on offense
2. Play well on defense
3. Coach well
4. Good special teams
5. Win turnover battle

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

Best line: "In order to beat the Patriots, you have to out score them."

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

Best line comes from Woodson: "To beat the New England Patriots right now you have to out score them."

Genius.

Like at other times there was another way to win. I suppose someday it will be you whoever comes out with the most soiled self-esteem wins?

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

Before 2008, people thought the only way was to take out Brady. They still went 11-5. Woodson nailed it, you just gotta score more points.

Brilliant. I have been wondering the same thing for a long time.

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

I bet if the other team scored more points than us they'd have a good chance to win.

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

I love the NFL this season. :p
A bunch of silly billys around here

LOL @ Rod Woodson, that was his big secret to the Packers...they needed to outscore the Patriots. It's funny, Rod says that scoring more points is the key to winning and everybody laughs. BB can say the exact same thing and everybody laughs. Ahh the fine line between AT and WITH.

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

The key to beating the Pats is to have a better QB.

Good luck with that.:D:p

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

These segments are the ultimate compliment because right now I don't see how anyone can stop the offense absent sneeking 3 or4 extra guys out there.

Ultimately, Woodson is correct. An NFL defense is not going to stop them under present circumstances. The opposing offenses need to look at scoring 35 minimum.

Having 11 living bodies walk onto the field is all the "blueprint" required for the Steelers.

No f#cking sh#t. I posted something similar to your comment after espn aired something about "how to beat the Patriots" this season. In 2007 there was a ton of "blueprint" talk. Remember first Philadelphia had it, then Baltimore had the blueprint because the Patriots played close games against those teams. Pittsburgh was supposed to "copy" "the blueprint", but the got housed in Foxboro 34-13.
Why was there no "blueprint" on New Orleans last year, or Pittsburgh the year before, or Indianapolis before???? Maddening, it is...

Re: NFLN:Blueprint to beat the Pats

In an unprecedented move, NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell announced that this years NFC representative to the Super Bowl will have the opportunity to swap out any of it's defenders with members of the 2010 NFC Pro Bowl defense. When asked why he would allow such a move, he was quoted as saying, "This decision was made in the Spirit of Competition". Mr. Goodell also believed that this would help peak people's interest in this year's Super Bowl and make it less of "One-Sided" affair. When asked if this would be perceived as unfair to the New England Patriots, he waived off the notion and muttered something that sounded a lot like "[expletive] them!".
