Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

Gerard Warren has said he wants to play for an 11th year and wants it to be in NE, I would like to resign him. Anybody else ?

Absolutely. Get him a high round rookie four technique to mentor, groom, and rotate with to keep him fresh.

Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

They need the same things they needed before the game:

DE
OLB
OG
RB
WR

The one thing I'm finally conceding above and beyond that is that they need a sports shrink to fix Brady's head. He's afraid to run, and he's lost his fearlessness regarding pass rush. Unless that gets fixed, we'll see more days like yesterday.

I mentioned in another thread about how many times Brady had acres of field to scramble into and get 5-7 yards, but he sat there for ever before finally someone puled him down or he didnt make a connection. Just being a little mobile forces the defense to play a LB or S a little nearer. I could have run for some yards yesterday and still slid well before a defender was near me

In terms of the draft its been covered but in order of prority

OLB
DE
WR
C
OG/OT
FB

Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

#1 offensive line... if this team is not going to make a effort to get a big time pass rusher in the offseason and just rely on Brady, to win games then they need to put a great OL in front of him

#2 defensive line Wilfork, is a great player but he has noting but JAG's and 7th round picks playing with him he needs help

#3 OLB just look at the teams left in the playoffs 3 of them run a 3-4 defense look at the pass rush they get from there main 2 starting OLB's the packers 17.5 sacks, the steelers 20.5 the jets 11.5 sacks... the pats got a total of 5 sacks from Jermaine Cunningham, and Rob Ninkovich, you cant win SB's like that

#4 CB there pass defense was ranked 30th in the NFL you cant win in the playoffs with defense that gives up over 250 yerds a game... if Leigh Bodden, can come back and play like he did in 2009 then they will have two of the better CB's in the NFL but they still need dept

#5 RB Woodhead, is a nice lil 3rd down back but notting more BJGE had a nice season and im ok with him being the main RB next year but they should draft a big RB with some speed

#6 WR not a big need but a vet like T.O would be a nice pick up hell ill take Moss, back he opend up Welker, to take over games

Unfortunately, it seems as if it's a pipe dream to expect this team to get a FB. They've needed one for years, but they've eliminated the position. On the other hand, since Connolly doesn't belong starting on the line, maybe they could put him at FB full time.

Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

The New England Patriots don't need more leaders on this team, the Patriots need more talent. Please remember that Leigh Bodden and Ty Warren should be back for the 2011 NFL Season. Those two players should assist in the leadership department for the defense along with Vince Wilfork.

Dan Connolly is not the long term solution at right offensive guard and Stephen Neal, at the age of 34, cannot be depended on for 16 regular season games let alone the AFC Playoffs. If the Patriots are going to beat the Jets, Ravens, Steelers in the playoffs, a serious upgrade via the 2011 NFL Draft at right offensive guard is needed. Since the New England Patriots have two second round draft picks, one of two second round draft picks could be expended on a offensive guard. For example, Mike Pouncey from Florida could be selected late in the first round or the top in the second round.

Tom Brady was sacked five times against the New York Jets while Mark Sanchez was not sacked once.

The New England Patriots need to upgrade the 5-technique defensive end position opposite of Ty Warren next year. Marcell Dareus from Alabama (hint Nick Saban) could be the long term solution at the 5-technique defensive end position however he may not last until the 17th pick. It's possible the New England Patriots could trade up in the first round to land Marcell Dareus, however Belichick would have to believe that Marcell Dareus is the next Richard Seymour. Also, the New England Patriots have been lately trading down in the first round not trading up.

The New England Patriots need to draft 3-4 outside linebackers who can set the edge in the running game while also be able to rush the passer. Tully Banta-Cain is not the solution in the running game and did not come up big today applying pressure on the New York Jets quarterback. Jermaine Cunningham and Rob Ninkovich are adequate 3-4 outside linebackers however neither are explosive pass rushers. Jermaine Cunningham may develop his pass rushing skills in the future. Tully Banta-Cain and Eric Moore are expendable. As for 3-4 outside linebackers in the 2011 NFL Draft, Beal from Oklahoma or Acho from Texas could fall to the bottom of the second round.

Yeah, but when they're actually executing and have a good gameplan Gronk on the wham negates that need.

Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

Good news is we have the picks and don't need high dollar free agents IMO. Maybe some key affordable vets.

Since the offense was game planned, let's start there.

The fact they could single cover our wideouts succesfully made their clog the middle strategy work.

We could use a Branch type smurf to go with the old Branch and some competition for Tate. Now that the template has been set to defend us, we need that personnel upgrade and some new plays. Nothing wrong with Brady that screwing up all your pass routes won't do to any QB.

That's 1 or 2 receivers, being a deadly quick one and long threat, or both in one.

They gave us the run, playing a DB on the line. BJGE and Woodhead are nice players, but I see both vets retiring and we could add a speed and a power back and keep Woodhead as the 3rd down, BJGE as a commiktte back. We usually don't need it, but having a guy who could rip off some 15-20 yard runs against that DB strategy would have been a game changer.

Obviously need to beef up the Oline, I think they let Light go and move Vollmer, meaning a road grader RT and another guard if Mankins signs. Kick ass running game will help Brady.

Top pick should be a DE if we can find one worth it. I guess they still need a pass rushing stud. but a monster DE is affecting that problem too.

Wouldn't be shocked to see them grab a safety and trade a year of Meriweather. CB depth too.

Depending on the draft, we might just need a tweak from a vet FA or two. Bonus is, the calendar is going to improve half our team and that's new to me in the BB era.

We saw the limits of Crumpler, but we knew that. His blocking's great and the fact he was a "go too" just shows how much they gummed up our offense. He should still be a secret weapon for possession catches, he's just not as agile as he used to be. Gronk and Hernandez should just get better, especially with a revamped RB and WR corps.

Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

Pretty much agree with everything said.

If there is a bright spot to an early exit (and I'm obviously stretching with this, b/c there are few bright spots), it is that the team has extra time to prepare for the draft. Two of the best drafts have come over the past two years following early finishes to the season.

Re: offseason moves ?? What this team needs !!!

The Patriots need Brett Favre and his childlike enthusiasm.

They also need to bring back Eric Mangini.

You get 3 areas you need to address going into the next year. I know we have more than 3 areas to address, but you only get 3. Rank them 1 through 3 with a brief explanation as to why you feel we need to address it. And then a Summary of why with your changes, you want the team to focus on those certain areas next season.

1) Defensive Line - Adding a beast with a top pick to this Defensive Unit will make the entire LB, and Secondary look even better. I like this young defense a lot, have a Dline that pressures and requires 2 double teams would make the overall defense stout.

2) Fullback - Simply because for 2 games next year, I want the entire game plan to be I-Formation, run straight at them, and I seriously mean, not one throw, not one deviation... just continue to pound the rock right at them. I want this offense to be able to just line up and beat someone and impose their will on a defense. I feel you need a FB to bring in that power attitude. Side Note: FB are typically good leaders which this team is lacking.

3) Offensive Line - To match up with the above statement. We need to be able to operate ala 03 and 04 when we were able to close ou games with running and time control. The Era of Pass as a Run needs to end, we need to Run as a Statement, which will help get us playoff ready. And we need another road grader, tough, Aggressive O-linemen.

Summary) Miami, and Marino - That team always relied on Marino to carry them everywhere, like we do with Brady, and when they come up against Playoff defenses, they find a way to frustrate him, and they never went anywhere. We won 3 SBs becuase we didn't rely on Brady to win every game. We only asked to be to the Closer. To close out the game, or to make a come back once in a while. We need a shift to a power run game, and a tenacious defense which gets after the QB, but most importantly leads the league in fewest rushing yards from scrimmage. Having a weapon like Brady as your secondary attack would be amazing, and I feel it would lead to a much more refreshed Brady come playoff time.
