MNF:Jets at Houston...

Well, I agree that he cannot survive on these short passes, but with him only playing two series it is too soon to criticize him yet for not being able to do anything else. Yes, his past tells you that he will struggle with longer passes, but we can't blame him for the fact that the Jets came in with a conservative gameplan for the first game.

Its NEVER to early to criticze the jets.

It's only the first preseason game, but the Pats look further along in their TC with their rooks and 2nd stringers than the Jet's first teamers.....

I think that is the biggest thing. After watching this game and some of the highlights of other games, it is amazing that the Pats' back ups looked in midseason form while so many other teams are sluggish and mistake prone. I think Belichick has done a wonderful job thus far getting this team prepared for the regular season with little preparation time.

Last night was a comedy of eras for both teams. The Pats looked sharp in their opener.

Although the Jets continued their red zone woes, Sanchez did complete 6 of 7 passes. Granted, the Texans clearly didn't scheme for their short passing game since the CBs gave their receivers a big cushion. Also, having Joseph out didn't help.

People are reading too much into one preseason game. I was looking for several things and so far they haven't improved them (although you cannot read too much into one game). They haven't improved their red zone woes. They haven't improved their pass rush. Wilkerson didn't impress although Kendrick Ellis impressed more. Overhyped players like Westerman, Kerley, and McKnight didn't live up to the hype. It will be interesting to see over the course of the preseason if these things change.

Wrecks was in true playoff form blowing up and throwing his headset, however. And that came in the first half!

I Agree, one of the most impressive things that I saw in Ridley's performance the other night was his blitz pick-up. I remember one play when they overloaded the weakside and he saw it, crossed in front of Mallett and picked up the bliter.

I thought that Dirty Sanchez looked pretty good, he hit almost all of his five yard throws off play action. I'm glad that the Pats did not draft McElroy, he looked god awful.

I laughed my ass off:rofl:

wait until he loses to our PATRIOTS every game this year. That is the Rex I want to see. The same Rex that was rattled in the loss to Pittsburgh:)

Since the predraft I've been saying that Wilkerson was wildly overrated. He had a LOT of trouble against OLs from BCS schools, and he only played well against MAC guys.

I thought Ellis was a decent pick if he managed to stay out of jail.

Kneejerk reaction - you have to know what you're looking at. Once he settled in McElroy looked better than Sanchise... They'd have won by 2 scores if he had been playing with WR's who could catch the damn ball. He'd have been a great fit here if Mallett hadn't fallen in Bill's lap. The situation there may ruin him over time. Unless it ruins Sanchez first. I keep hearing analysts wax poetic about how great the JETS OL will still be when everyone not named Mangold or Ferguson (who were both out last night) is a veteran JAG or a potential draft bust. That new 5th round rookie WR who looked so good in camp is gonna get snapped like a twig once the hitting starts. Plax and Mason are gonna be dinged up all season. Mason until now has been able to play through that. Not so sure Plax will be able to. Rex is gonna need a lot more RB's, and some means to bring pressure short of blitzing on every snap.

What they're doing at the moment will still flumox the little sisters of the poor. Fortunately they don't play enough of them this season to get to double digit wins.

Lord knows I hate 'em, but the Jets are going to be a good team this year. I don't think they'll come in first in the AFCE, but they should make the playoffs and be a very tough out.

They are a couple of injuries away from being an 8-8 team.....No OL depth....and their safeties aren't that good.....

They rely on their Defense to win.....Losing Ellis to Pats is a double ouchie for them.....

Wilkerson is not that good....and DuCasse sucked....they already are dinged up after one game with Turner down.....No OLB rusher.....Blitzing only gets you so far before getting burned.....

Snatchy showed alot of dink and dunk which isn't going to fool alot of teams...maybe he goes downfield more when Plax is healthy but one good hit might end the Plax experiment.....Hope Jets rely on run vs Pats because I don't think there will be much room with the DL/LB mix the Pats use....Fletcher looked real good subbing for Mayo...:)

The Jets also played a lot of players who will definitely play late into the game. They were playing their legitimate second string on both sides of the ball through the third and they were playing some second stringers who should play (Kerley, Westerman, McIntrye, Cook, Dixon, Kenrick Ellis) for much of the fourth quarter)

Rex looked like he was going to cry over that loss...what an idiot.

I focused on Wilkerson he looked bad (granted it was his 1st game).

Ellis looked good but he's got bigger problems than jail. He's a resident alien charged with a aggrevated felony. If he is convicted ICE can deport him. He'll being going "Back to Jamiaca"

Schefter wrote that Houston set a team pre-season record with 7 sacks. Wouldn't mind seeing Wade & Co. take that action against Manning and the Colts a couple of times a year. Just 'cuz it'd be fun to watch.

I thought just the opposite, Wilkerson looked raw but with potential and Ellis looked like he wasn't getting any penetration against subs. He also had a pretty dumb play jumping on the pile late that he should have gotten flagged for.

Not a great game by either side. But it is still the 1st preseason game and there was nothing on show that was indicative of how either team will fare in the real season. I will say one thing for Rex though, bombast that he is, he can coach his team up. The first 2 series were ho-hum conservative as others have pointed out, but after that the second team looked awful for the rest of the half. I would imagine that Rexy hit them like a maelstrom at half time because the second and third string came out much better in the second half and could have won it with a fair wind and a better play. I think the pursuit of youth at the expense of experience is going to hurt them and their defense will drop down the rankings a little.

I have no idea how the offense is going to be - Plaxico needs long accurate balls and that is not Sanchize's strong point. I do think that they lost some youth, agility and skill when they let Edwards/Cotchery/Smith go and got Burress/Mason instead especially since the former were pretty good going over the middle. Still it's early days and we wont really know how good or bad they will be until 6 weeks into the season. But whatever they are I know that Rexy will have them fired up and playing better than they should. I bet BB loves plotting against him.
