How much more heartbreak can we patriot fans take?

Name one other franchise or fanbase that has been threw what we and the pats have.

Pretty much all of them, or are you saying being competitive but falling short is worse than sucking?

You act as if this was all just luck, but I am trying to see the underlying reasons why these seasons end the same way, seemingly every year. There is almost always a key third down not converted, followed by a Defensive collapse. It's not just luck...what is the reason?

His superior coaching has hidden these reasons from plain view. But they are still there.

You realize that in every close loss by every team there was at least a play on both offense and defense that wasn't made right?
It is totally moronic to say that a 3rd down not converted in a close loss is some tremendous insight to an inherent problem. It happens every time a team loses a close gane. Your post is useless.

That's a good question. I would say getting close right now is worse than sucking, for the simple fact, teams that suck usually get better threw the draft (LIONS TEXANS, and 49ers), while teams that get close cant.

he has a point about the defense collapsing right after brady goes 3 and out. It shows a lack of heart and bad coaching.

It couldn't possibly show fatigue because they just came off the field...

Just because you get high draft picks doesn't mean that you will be good. The raiders, seahawks and Jaguars come to mind. Winning the super bowl is great but the season isn't a failure because we lost.

Sometimes I wish I didn't care, I'm a little embarrassed that it hurt, being a sport and everything. But then I remember that this is what being a fan is all about, taking the rough with the smooth. Onwards and upwards.

This game just did not make sense. The Giants did everything one does before they lose a game, they talked the talk and got to walk it as well. I thought they were going to have eggs on their faces.
What hurts the most is that they are still talking trash after winning as well.
There must be a reason for this. Hopefully this makes the team stronger.

Heartbreak? Really? We're a DYNASTY with a fantastic team, one of the greatest QB/HC combos in NFL history, and are pretty much always a lock to win our Division.

You want real heartbreak? Perhaps become a Browns fan for a season. That's just constant sadness.

Prior to the game I spoke to my mother(casual fare weather fan) over the phone, her feeling of a potential loss was "It's no big deal, just another game, you guys get so worked about it. I won't mind" Really??

I called her up after the game and she was gutted "that was awful, I feel so bad.....". My father was in a delusional state in the back round yelling "there was time, everyone dropped passes, we could've won, int's etc.." I chimed in with "I'm gutted,...talk to you guys later" and hung up.

I can only imagine the family SB party, "AWW W TF" "Geeeezus are you kidding me" "(insert every imaginable expletive)". After the game it was a mish mosh of sorrow and anger.

A loss against a NY team in a championship game is down right crushing. If you live in NE it's like catching a deadly flu, even for a casual half hearted fan from afar it flat out sucks. My mother always forgets this tid bit.

That's my little heartbreak story. I Hope everyone's feeling better soon, me included.

Patriots 2011-2012, thank you for another great season.

Peace

Man up! as they say, you have no idea how great we have it.

Heartbreak? Sure it wasnt the ending we wanted, but i'd say we've been pretty spoiled. There's alot of fanbases out there that would love to just make the playoffs for once. Whereas we KNOW we'll be in the playoffs every season thanks to BB. We should consider ourselves lucky, and be happy, not heartbroken

As I stated in another post I'm damn proud of my team. I love 'em in victory and even MORE in losses that's loyalty and that's part of life with its ups and downs......the only thing I'm bitter about is the trash-talking and bullying gets rewarded with a win and sends the wrong message to young athletes and kids.....

I for one loved seeing Eli with his azz on the turf a few times, the defense played pretty good despite the constant trashing in the media (McGinest on NFL Network aside). Spikes is a beast and I love Ninko and Mark Anderson's(please re-sign him) energy out there.

Side note: I was surprised and nervous Marshall Faulk picked us to win......words fail me when it comes to trying to describe him.

Heartbrake? That would require a heart. I'm mad. Mad that we got outsmarted, outcheated, outmanipulated by an old fart. How evil. How dirty. How disgusting. And how come it wasn't US?

Oh Bill better be on a mission this year. We better come out with so many freaking rules to exploit it's not even funny.

12 man defensive penalties
injury time outs
taping-from outside the stadium of course using high resolution cameras
injury targeting
Injury fine to win % efficiency ratios
Ex-lax

I mean you name it. We better have it all in our arsenal this year. Because you know what? Trying to win fair sends the wrong message to kids and young athletes. It's. just. not. how. real. life. works. Obviously.

If we're the cleanest team in football, we're not trying hard enough to win d%#*!@t! We're only supposed to put on the impression of a good image, not actually be that. When did this happen to us? I don't want to be Disney Patriots. It's the parents job to be role models or shield their kids from the dirty side of life if they want.

We're not the ones that are supposed to do that for them. We're supposed to win Super Bowls. We can't win Super Bowls if we're playing by idealistic honest and fair rules while everyone else is playing by 2012, get it any way you can, rules.

Seriously, when have we become so soft? And why are you all crying about this instead of being disgusted by it all? We got out-dirtied by Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning. Tom Coughlin! He's like a freaking saint! And Eli!!! How is this possible?

The bottom is deep.......and it is dark.

Obviously you weren't around for that

I understand where you are coming from but it is a little aggravating just after couple of days of a gut wrenching loss ! its not as if we got blown out of both super bowls. We were just a couple of crucial big plays away from lifting the trophy.

so call me spoiled, but a few good talents that we potentially missed in D the last few drafts by trading down down down again and again is not helping. This team is not able to close out big games when it matters with the present approach :bricks:

you guys have 3 rings

you wouldn't know heartbreak if it smacked you in your face

I was ready to go on a rant in response to the silly title of the thread :enranged:, but you said it all in two sentences.

The old saying goes, "When you have nothing to add, shut up." So, I'm shutting up and just saying:

:yeahthat:

Ever since 2006 we pats fans have been through soo much

2005 the mile high playoff loss
2006 the colt collapse
2007 the superbowl
2008 the loss of brady
2009 the raven massacre
2010 the defense couldn't stop a nosebleed
AND now this superbowl

I don't know how much more this we can take only to start it again next season.

It's not easy being you.

I literally had to read through several posts in this thread to make sure it wasn't meant sarcastically or as a joke.

I know you guys have had very difficult losses to the Giants in you last two SBs, but a little perspective is in order. You could make an EXTREMELY compelling case that the opposite is true: that the Patriots fans have suffered the LEAST heartbreak of any fanbase over the past dozen years. You have 3 SBs and are in the mix EVERY year...you don't think Vikings fan hasn't suffered more than you?

Even Giants and Steelers fans, who've each won 2 SBs recently, can't say they've had it as good as the Pats (unless they want to conveniently forget your SBs in 01/03/04 LOL).

Hopefully this thread is just a case of (understandable) post-loss, temporary insanity that will pass with time.

The bottom is deep.......and it is dark.

Indeed....many of us have been there. I started a thread a while back on their 1990 season....holy smokes it was something awful to remember. The stats are even worse looking at them again.

One day this franchise will be really bad again (it's inevitable), so we better enjoy these golden days while we can, even if they don't always end up in a victory parade.
