Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

To play 5 tech? How isn't it so?

he would be better than anyone the pats currently have, but poe would take the middle and wilfork would move over. he has the ability to occupy blockers to open things up for all around

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Poe can play the 3 tech DE and NT in a 3-4. We already have those positions covered though. The cog we're missing is the ever hard to find 5 tech DE.

Yeah, right.

Pass. I'd rather use keep Wilfork where he's best.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Best WR 3 Cone: Junior Hemingway - 6.59
Best WR Shuttle: Junior Hemingway, Eric Page - 3.98

Got this info from: 2012 NFL Combine: Weigh-In / Times | NEPatriotsDraft.com - 2012 NFL Draft

For reference that 3 Cone, which is one the Patriots like a lot, is faster than Deion Branch was bye .12. His short shuttle is only .07 off of Branch's time and his 40 .03 off of Branch. He might be somebody they would take a shot on in the late rounds or UFA.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Good to hear McClellin looks good. Using the numbers we've got right now, he compares very similarly to Ninkovich except that he's much faster (4.63 compared to 4.91 at combine and 4.80 at pro day). He just needs good 3 cone and shuttle times now, which I expect will happen.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Poe would fit nicely in my plan to play a 2-gap 4-2-3 with Zach Brown as a big Nickel safety. Sign Mario Williams and you can have a base DL of Mario-Poe-Wilfork-Deaderick, with Mayo and Spikes at ILB :D

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Perry seems like a good fit for a 1-gap 3-4 like the Chargers run. Yesterday he says he wants have his hand in the dirt and sack the QB. Seems like the type of player who covets sacks because thats where the $$ is at.

Andre Carter told Belichick the same thing. He wanted to go somewhere that he puts his hand in the dirt and gets after the qb. The elephant role in our defense is pretty much that. Willie McGinest didn't drop into coverage all too often. I think you're reading a lot into what type of person a player is when he says something like that without knowing him. I'm not saying perry is a great kid. But, not reading anywhere near as much as you did into his statement.

more than anyone, perry reminds me of vernon gholston

A 4-2-3? Our defense couldn't stop anyone with 11 players on the field and you wanna do it with NINE?

Perfect reason to stay away from him. And for what it's worth, Bruce Irvin reminds me of Aaron Maybin but Irvin is 1000x more mature.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Not that there's anything (much) wrong with that.

However, I disagree w/ your take on players like Irvin who are considered one-down, one-trick ponies. Players like Irvin are now 2-down players; and the one trick they do, nobody on the Pats - NoBody - can do that trick at all.

Hi Captain.

Look I agree with you about the Pats and pass rushers but I can only go with what I see. BB does not like one-trick ponies. We may disagree (I don't) but it's just a reality we have to deal with. Now BB has shown the ability to adjust and maybe last year was the first sign that he sees the need to get after the passer but I just don't see someone like Irvin representing the right kind of value for BB.

I don't want either.....

I'd be very happy with fletcher cox and melvin ingram

even though I like the poe argument, he'll be long gone

We don't need em, with Super Mario we don't need CB's cause they opposing QB won't have time to throw. I suppose its better than running a 3-4 and only playing with 7 like some of these so called "experts" on the NFL Network are talking about teams playing :D

I agree that McGinest didn't completely drop into coverage and make tackles 20 yards down the field. What we ask our Jack LB to do on some plays is not necessarily drop into coverage but to stay near the line of scrimmage and make plays on those RBs/TEs trying to make the easy 3-5 yard catches.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Anyone remember who went after Lewis all day?
