Either his play has severely declined lately or that's an absolute steal.
He got a lot of credit for amassing a bunch of tackles on a defense that stunk.

Eagles finally getting that LB they've been searching for as they have agreed to a trade w Houston for pro bowl LB DeMeco Ryans

The Houston Texans have traded DeMeco Ryans to the Philadelphia Eagles for a mid-round draft pick, per Glazer.

Well... didn't see that coming. Has his play fallen off a cliff over the last couple of years?

Oops didn't see that someone had posted it already. Mario now Ryans i don't think it'll be a blow to the texans defense at all.

I've read that he was not the same player last year after they switched to the 3-4. I suppose they would rather have the draft pick then pay him the $6 million to play there.
I just read something similar. I admit to not hearing nearly as much about him as I used to. This tweet raises a similar question

Eagles acquiring DeMeco Ryans from Texans for a bargain price begs the question "Is something wrong with DeMeco Ryans?"

I don't know what the Texans are doing. Their FA has sucked absolute ass.

Demarco blew out his knee two years ago and hasn't fully recovered.

Salary cap issues

His financial numbers couldn't justify being a one-down player in the Texans' 3-4. Houston actually took a $2 million cap hit by moving him now, but they cleared $9 million in space for next year; they'll need that because they'll be looking to re-sign Matt Schaub and others then. He's a much better fit with the Eagles as their 4-3 MLB.

As is the case with many NFL transactions, the cap number has a lot to do with the decision.

Looking ahead they avoid some healthy salaries, and whatever the accompanying cap numbers were:

2012: $5.9 million base salary
2013: $6.6 million base salary
2014: $6.8 million base salary
2015: $6.8 million base salary

My guess that based on their strategy this offseason, the Bills are going to grossly overpay for Meachum. It looks like Wilson knows he isn't long for the world and letting Nix spend crazily to try to win now.

Personally, I don't think Meachum should even be in the first wave of free agent signings. He isn't that good and he may be a product of Drew Brees. Even then, he has never gotten close to 1,000 yards in a season even with Brees breaking Marino's record last season.

Well, we would agree with you for his 1st 3 years meach could not catch a thing. NO is a team that builds WR's internally threw coaching, much like Pitt.
Meach started to get it in 2008, and then got it in 2009. He's now a big play receiver. But not the best in the game. A solid 2nd. SD Probably did over pay for him. He is good though, just misses sometimes.

I think were most missed the the better pick was Adrian Arrington, who we have been coaching as a replacement for colston for a few years.
Adrian Arrington Highlights - YouTube

Arrington has improved a lot and can make some impossible catches, like colston. We think Arrington and colston are a better tandem than with meach.
Meach is better after the catch. I think thats why Meach was allowed to go.
Problem with developing WR's in-house is we have to let go of guys like shockey,Meach, etc when the new guys are ready. Its a good possibility that the Saints offense is stronger without Meach and having Arrington in the line up now. Grubbs is a better Run blocker than Nicks, and no penalties. Nicks is an amazing pass blocker though. He deserves the money.

He was a fav of Aqua4ever's when the Phins drafted him before trading him away to the SeaHags. Wilfork destroyed him.

He never played for the Seahawks. He got traded to the Raiders for Jake Grove.

And what's with the name calling of the Seahawks? What'd they ever do to you?

A good idea

This is a great thread.

Can we maybe have a special forum where you can continue the back and forth of 'when I said' and 'when you said' and 'I was right' and 'you were wrong?' Fascinating, but not much related to free agent signings.

It's not a free agent signing but I'll put it here since we don't have a thread for all the free agents that the Pats visit with.

Free-agent Larsen visits Pats - New England Patriots Blog - espnBoston

The Patriots have hosted Broncos fullback Spencer Larsen on a free-agent visit at Gillette Stadium, a source confirms.

The 6-foot-2, 243-pound Larsen enters his fifth NFL season in 2012, and he could have worse options on his free-agent plate -- the Tom Brady-led Patriots and the Peyton Manning-led Broncos. He is expected to make a decision this week, possibly as soon as tomorrow.

Larsen, 28, played under current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in Denver (2009-2010). He attended college at Arizona, entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick in 2008, and has appeared in 50 career regular-season NFL games.

At one point in Denver, Larsen started one game at middle linebacker and fullback, and was a top special teams player in the same contest.

Bush to the Bears. One more RB gone.

Former Raiders RB Michael Bush agreed to terms with Bears: 4 yrs, $14m, $7 guaranteed.

This years crop of RBs have been dirt cheap.
