With this accurate, thread closing comment I can put this spam thread on Ignore

Great, that could have been accomplished by reading the title and moving on but you feel the need to open the clearly titled thread, read it, comment on it only to let everyone know you put it on ignore.

Serious question. He clearly can't and likely never will be able to run this team's offense. The offense relies on precision, timing, accuracy, decision making etc., things that Tebow clearly lacks. You say you want to run the Wildcat or Spread offense, that of course, means Brady sits.

Wouldn't this team be better served developing a "real" QB instead of trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Are they just going to throw away the playbook they spent over a decade developing to play sandlot football when /if Tebow plays.

To me, it just doesn't make sense on any level. Can someone enlighten me, without the usual "he's a great person" BS?
I think the "BS" as you put it, really is part of the equation.
I think BB sees a guy with the exact temperment and attitude that he wants in a QB and decided it was worth a shot to see if he could fix the physical.
Honestly, its always easier to fix the physical than the mental/psychological, the question is whether Tebow's lack of QB skills is fixable. IMO, thats what they are trying to find out. Not really worse than having a 3rd stringer that lacks other pieces that you are trying to development.

He looked like a QB3 last night ( at best).

Every year training camp rosters are trimmed down, some make it some don't . I don't understand why it's such a surprise that someone that's as an upgrade to the previous QB3 is getting a shot .

If he is not good enough for whatever it is he was signed for ,then he won't make the team ( just like another 40 guys right now in camp )

Just to tweak the Jets. Those are the only two games that he'll dress for this year.
Belichick does not operate that way. That is a Rex Ryan childish motive. BB couldnt care less about that crap.

No mystery why Tim Tebow was signed. He gives Mr. Kraft a squeaky
clean person to help offset Aaron Hernandez.

Re: Backup QB Situation

Of course it's preseason, and Matt Cassel looked horrid the year that he had to take over for Brady (ended up 11-5)...but, I thought Mallett would have showed a lot more upside.
Personally, I thought Mallet looked OK last night.
I see room for improvement, but he seemed to be aware, reasonably accurate and made good decisions.

Mallett looked O.K. but rusty. He lacked the final touch like on the
missed pass to Boyce.

I guess my point is the amount of resources being put in to him. If it's the Patriots offense that Brady runs than Tebow is about as bad of a fit there could possibly be, if it's a spread or wildcat type offense than they're working on two different offenses with very realistically 4 rookie receivers.

I just don't see the payoff, would anybody be comfortable with Tebow running the show if Brady, Mallett went down. What if Mallett's injury was more serious last night? Tebow your #2, or would you rather have someone somewhat more capable of running their existing offense?

The big thing missing in this Tebo discussion is that all the experts and "experts" have him already a shoe-in to make the team. If this is true, then the question becomes: how do we use him?

The assumption in these posts is that he is a long way from making the team--this makes more sense to me. But which is true--you or the pro writers?

I think he's here to play the 2nd half of preseason games and take hits from desperate players trying to make the opposing team's roster. I think he's a shadow roster player who Josh McDaniels knows. No team is going to sign him, and he's a serviceable backup if the unthinkable happens.

With the depth on this team at several positions on both sides of the ball, I cannot imagine Tebow taking up a roster spot. When it comes down to cut day, do you keep Tebow over position/special teams guys like Tavon Wilson, Leon Washington, Julian Edelman, Jeff Tarpinian, Nick Koutouvides, Will Svitek, Daniel Fells, Justin Francis, the Rutgers rookie DBs, etc? I think not.

Well, we aren't trying for ratings, to sell newspapers etc. so....

Yup. And I must admit to being sucked into the media take on Tebo. No doubt thinking of Tebo as another BB success story.

Who?
This is a team that usually keeps 2 QBs.
The 3rd is developmental. Tebow just needs development in different areas than other QBs. If he ends up on the field, we would surely need to run a gimmick offense, so it makes sense to run it now.
I'm not sure what resources we are using that we wouldn't use on any other #3 QB.
Its the #3 QB, does it really matter? Would you be complianing if Kafka was in there running whatever offensive plays they thought were best for him and stinking it up just as badly?

Re: Backup QB Situation

Not exactly stunning...both of them.

TFB better not go down.

I thought Mallett was supposed to be so good?

I already know about Teblow...

I view Mallett as a disappointment because I had this vision in my mind of us trading him for a 1st or 2nd round draft pick when we drafted him back in 2011, that clearly isn’t going to happen unless he makes drastic changes in the next 3 preseason games and even that would like probably at best bring his trade value back to a mid-round pick.

If you’re not looking at Mallett for trade value or as Brady’s heir apparent and you just look at him as a competent backup quarterback you would not see him as a disappointment, he was 9/18 for 97 yards; his completion percentage would have been higher if not by drops by Dobson, and a couple other receivers. I’m still comfortable with Mallett as our backup quarterback; my disappointment is that we will never get a top 60 draft pick for him, but that may have been a flawed belief from the get.

Tebow is a disaster; I never thought he was any good from the times I watched his Denver games but last night he opened my eyes to how freaking bad he really is. It truly looks like a special Olympics quarterback competition when Tebow is out there, his reads are like watching a MLB pitcher go through the process of throwing a pitch, his accuracy is horrific and when goes to scramble it has just as good a chance of netting you -10 yards as it does positive yardage.

Maybe he can have a chance in the CFL or Arena league where the defense can allow him the time it requires him to make decisions but Tebow clearly does not possess the mental aptitude to play quarterback in the NFL.

McDaniels is trying to justify taking him with a1st round pick. Thinks he can teach him to play qb. Complete waste of time. No chance he makes the team and doesn't help develop other players who have to play with him.

I respectfully disagree; you need a camp arm and in a league with this many mobile quarterbacks (see below) it makes sense to bring in a guy like Tebow just for camp to run the 3rd string and give you defenders some different looks other than what they’d see with Brady or Mallett.

Wilson
Newton
Kaepernick
G. Smith
Manuel

Vick

Tier 2

:nooo: Come on D stop making excuses for the guy it’s so monotonous. He has been here nearly 60 day (participated in OTA’s and 12 practices), he spent his entire rookie season in a McDaniel’s offense, and they’re letting him run plays he is familiar with and not even our primary sets.

Let’s call it what it is; Tebow was horrible, his reads took way to long, his accuracy was terrible, and his decision making was redshirt freshman in college level at best.

He looked great on warmup drills before the game and seemed to get along with the team very well. While he was on the sideline, he was playing catch with Brady and Mallet. Also, Tebow was on point for two or three passes that the receivers didn't catch.

Not totally defending him, he had some terrible throws and held the ball excessively long on a handful of plays. Can't comment on why they signed him, but he did seem to fit prettty well as the number 3
