Vince Wilfork asks to be released

2014 Wilfork cannot replace 2012 Wilfork.

2013 Wilfork could replaced by several players already on the team.

How much does it cost to replace him with 1 or 2 players?

If it's close to 8 million than you keep him.

Some players really hit a soft spot when they leave. Bruschi, Faulk, Law, Brown.... This one hurts. Its like losing a good friend.:(. My wife is not going to take this well. She calls him her big teddy bear.... A very big, ugly teddy bear. :D

Who exactly is "him"? The Wilfork of age 21-31 or the 32 year old coming off an achilles injury. Too much to pay for an unknown and he is not exactly a slender fellow so the achilles may be an issue going forward. If the Cowgirls can cut Ware we can cut Vince. Kelly will be back and he can sit there with Jones/Siliga.

You mean like we did vs Denver???

Manning was taking a nap while looking for receivers ...

Seriously ... here's a current list ... I do not see much.

1. Henry Melton
2. Linval Joseph (Signed five-year, $31.5M deal with MIN)
3. B.J. Raji
4. Jason Hatcher
5. Randy Starks (Re-signed two-year, $12M deal with MIA)
6. Paul Soliai (Signed five-year, $33M deal with ATL)
7. Clinton McDonald (Signed four-year, $12M deal with TB)
8. Jonathan Babineaux (Re-signed three-year, $9M deal with ATL)
9. Kevin Williams
10. Alex Carrington
11. Pat Sims
12. Earl Mitchell (Signed four-year, $16M deal with MIA)
13. Vance Walker 14. Tony McDaniel (Re-signed two-year deal with SEA)
15. Corey Peters (Re-signed one-year, $1.5M deal with ATL)
16. Ziggy Hood (Signed undisclosed deal with JAX)
17. Ryan Pickett
18. Ropati Pitoitua (Re-signed three-year, $9.6M deal with TEN)
19. Fred Evans
20. Jay Ratliff (Re-signed two-year, $4M deal with CHI)

Bring Justin Tuck

Tuck Rules

The Raiders are courting him and given that they have a boatful of $$$$ and have done nothing so far in FA they'll seriously overpay Tuck

well thats sad..one of my all time favourites but it is what it is.
Now draft Ellis or Kerr and we will be just fine

Bring back Ted Washington

Buffalo will sign him. Pepper is coaching there now and they have the money.

I don't think Buffalo will even be interested. They have Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus at Defensive Tackle, both of whom made the Pro Bowl last year. Also, Jim Schwartz's defense may use the 4-3 more, which wouldn't preclude adding a Nose Tackle. The Bills need another DE, not a guy in the middle.

If anything, I would think Brandon Spikes would be an ideal fit for Buffalo. He's got the Pepper Johnson affiliation, and Buffalo brought in his cousin Takeo in free agency back in 2003...just heard him on WGR (a Buffalo sports radio station) saying good things about his experience there.

Not to mention that Buffalo needs a run-stopping specialist LB, which is what Brandon Spikes is.

I've been trying to follow Spikes in free agency here, but it's funny that there seems to be zero news about him at all. Haven't heard of him visiting anybody, or even any hide-nor-hair of rumors or interest. Strange.

Give him what he wants. Wish him well. Tell him the door is still open (if he's actually healed up).

:)

I call this request selfish and juvenile on his part. I'm mad, I'll show you? Really? If he thinks he's worth what his salary is, then someone would at least pony up a late pick for him. Now other teams know the situation is untenable and he has backed the FO into a corner as well as himself..

Before you scold him, you would do well to remember that when Wilfork was first drafted, he was locked into a murderous SIX year rookie contract (this type of contract is now no longer allowed).

As you know, he quickly outplayed that contract and was one of the most underpaid premiere D lineman until his second contract in 2009.

Starks for 12M/2 years? We should have been all over that.

He is not being asked to take less $$ just restructure. If he thinks he can get more on the open market then so be it. Not sure about "murderous" as he was paid as a first rounder. I doubt he is poor.

I see Melton, Raji, and Hatcher ... I'd rather pay Wilfork ... or at least trade him.

I f he is released he will end up a dolphin ..........

Of course, he was being asked to take less money. Do you really think that the patriots were offering to pay Wilfork $8M a year?

I don't think the Patriots will release him ... unless there's a player of similar ability or close ability out there that they can get for 4 or 5 million.

the Patriots would be willing to have 15 million in dead cap space this year?

I doubt it.

Wilfork's 3.6M is hitting the books whether he's here or not.

The question is, is he worth 8M in NEW money. If they don't think so, worrying about the 3.6M is pointless. That would be throwing good money after bad to throw another 8M away because you don't like 3.6M being called dead money.

if he thinks he can get more money on the open market, do you blame him? id take more money
hes under contract. i dont have a problem with him saying no to a restructered contract but i dont get asking to be released. hes making 11 million this year?

Wilfork doesnt solve that. he isnt a penetrating DT...plus, we dont know what kind of shape he will be in to perform. last year before the injury he was getting pushed around. As I said. no team is going to pay him that.

I actually agree with Felger for once. The league is changing. its all about stopping the pass. The pats had no problem stopping the run with Siligia. paying a Run stopping NT 11.5million$ isnt as important in this league.

Nothing but love and respect. The guy played his heart out here and made a lot less bank than others did.

Just because Vince asked the Pats to release him doesn't insure they will do it. They don't have to. He'll always have his Big Y adds to buy munchies with.
