Vikings RB Adrian Peterson indicted for child abuse; deactivated for Pats game at Minnesota

Don't worry, he's taken his last snap.

He injured a 4 year old child's scrotum in a "whooping room".

His career was officially DOA the moment that hit the airwaves.
and...he bullied the child and threatened him with violence if he even told anyone about it...

If this keeps up, Federal Prison is going to be able to field a better football team than the NFL.

They got a 50 million dollar TE, lots of depth at running back. Maybe if Big Ben hits the `dating scene`, they'll pick up a quarterback who can extend the play.
Sometimes "sick humor" is appropriate because it makes the point better than a self-righteous lecture...this is a good example of that...thanks for the post.

Let the law take its course......hey what a concept. Do you mean that Peterson is to be looked at as if he did nothing until there is a trial? Hey, didn't someone once write something about that before? It's starting to come back to me....something about innocent until.....what? Innocent until you are skewered by the media, and the Internet forums? No, that's not it...oh, well, give me a minute while I google it and I'll report back.

I saw the photos on this thread. I read the texts Peterson sent. As to the ultimate issue of Peterson' s innocence or guilt, right now, you can claim they are "facts" but actually they are hearsay. And, by the time anything gets to this forum it is quadruple hearsay, if not more. There is a reason hearsay, with some exceptions, is excluded from trials. Maybe the photos, texts, etc are all true. Maybe some are and some are not.
I have read virtually all of this thread. And all I can do is (a) hope the child is okay and (b) thank God I live in a country governed by the Constitution and the rule of law.
Joker is right. Let the law run it's course.

If we don't win this game now....:D

4-3
Revis vs. Jennings in press
Dennard/Butler on Patterson with McCourty help
Focus on Rudolph
Bring pressure/loaded boxes to Cassel all day

Don't complicate things BB.
the spread went from three to six points over night.

What Peterson did is child abuse, how anyone can accept his actions is ridiculous!! I hope Peterson gets serious jail time, he's the one that deserve's to be punished not his 4yr old child.

Sorry SB39, but it's time Satan get deposed. He's needs to be gone. Please stop championing this POS. You're smarter than that.

Of course people are going to form private opinions...no way to stop that. The problem is when a large segment of society, and that includes a gazillion media outlets , all vying for viewers, attention and clicks, look at an indictment, look at the "facts" and start shouting GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY, and editorializing about the form of punishment ....in those circumstances the presumption of innocence becomes an illusion and the right to a fair trial is very difficult to administer.

Presumption of innocence is a right in the courtroom, not in the street. Everyone thinks OJ is guilty because he murdered someone. Many people think Ray Lewis is guilty for the same. If AP didn't want people thinking he was guilty of child abuse, the best practice would've probably been not to beat one with a stick and then text about it.

We shouldn't vilify people for having a little common sense when looking at information because it makes trials more difficult. That's why there's a trial and we don't get to lynch people right off. Our biggest problem in society these days is because people just don't think anymore- having people think less won't help anything.

So I understand the "innocent until proven guilty" part, and more often than not that is exactly how it goes, but there are cases where that is not the case, see domestic violence, etc

Sometimes u get punished by the law before u face a jury/judge, that's why u go to jail and then present your case

The fact that petersons employer is taking action before an actual verdict of guilty or not guilty comes in is totally up to them, and it opens up themselves to liability later on, which is their own risk to take

If they let Peterson go, same exact thing can b said

But it's hearsay and we dont know the facts other than pictures and Peterson basically admitting that he went a little too far. And everyone use to get whipped like a mule when they were 4 years old so its cool

I am nowhere near as big of a Goodell supporter as some people say. I defended the guy a couple times and the hyperbole we see from other people is that I am a big apologist and never criticize him. All I have ever said about the guy is that when you consider what his job is and what his role is within that position, he has done a great job. I've also said he gets a lot of blame for things that are really the owners' fault - but, of course, that's part of his job.

I honestly wouldn't care one bit if he was fired (or resigned), but people act like if that happened, someone would step in and fix all the NFL's ills. Controversies like Ray Rice would never arise. Rules changes like increased protection for QB's an WR's would go back to the way they used to be. Unpopular initiatives like 18 games schedules and London games would disappear. None of those things would happen.

Totally serious.
As I said to another poster, I sincerely hope you never get indicted for a high profile crime. You will then truly understand what I mean.

Ya pretty sure Jesus wouldn't be too pleased with a small child being whipped like that.

My immediate thought when I saw this earlier today was, "I hope to God this dimwit isn't a parent."

Let me give you the definition of hearsay

hear·say
ˈhi(ə)rˌsā/
noun
  1. information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate

Pictures of cuts from whipping.
Peterson admitting in a text message he did it

We are far past hearsay.

The presumption of innocence applies in the courtroom, on the street, and in fact anywhere else you care to name in this country. It's a constitutional right. That means, we don't get to pick and choose which cases it applies to or which person gets to use it.
And, interesting you say that everyone thought OJ was guilty. Well, everyone except for the twelve people on the jury. For the record, I didn't agree with the verdict, but like I said, I don't get to pick and choose who gets the benefit of the presumption and who does not.
If you read my post as asking people to think less or not use common sense, then I think you have mis-understood me. To the contrary, I am asking people to think a bit more.

That is not the legal definition of hearsay. Trust me on that.

This is a case where we have to keep two at least inconsistent and possibly conflicting ideas in our heads at the same time.

Yes, Mr. Peterson is innocent until proven guilty and the legal system has to be given the chance to run its course and Mr. Peterson is entitled to due process and to a trial by a jury of his peers.

But, Mr. Peterson is also in a position of influence as a media star (i long ago started to think of high profile athletes as entertainers). The fame that has brought him great wealth is a two-edged sword that also brings with it the reality that he will be held to a different standard than the rest of us.

So, once the Grand Jury indicted him, it was fair for the Vikings and the League to remove him from the field and from being able to use the NFL to further his fame as well as from continuing to use the NFL as a podium for endorsements.

If Peterson is found "Not Guilty," he will no doubt have recourse in the courts to gain any salary monies that were withheld from him and perhaps to seek compensation for damages to his reputation and earning potential that go beyond that as well. But, for now, IMO, the right thing has been done.

The fact that a jury finds a person not guilty does not require me to believe that person didn't commit a crime. It requires me to believe the person was found not guilty (I'm not entitled to my own facts), not that he is not guilty.

My parents spent plenty of time reasoning and explaining things to me. They grounded me, restricted things, took things away, and physically disciplined me if the fight or situation called for it. Sometimes I was a rotten bastard and the situation WOULD call for it. The kids I knew who were like me and didn't have to fear any sort of physical discipline became medicated by their parents when things got out of hand at school and at home. Ritalin, Adderall, Xanax, you name it. Those were the kids that became more and more messed up in the head as they were getting older. In the end, I'm not the rotten, little punk I used to be. It's highly debateable if I would have become the man I am today without a hands on approach by my parents as far as punishment and discipline went. If you could go back to my junior year in high school, I don't doubt my teachers and administrators would have told you that they thought I would have went to a juvenile facility and, later, jail at this age. Even though my grades were good in school (which is something of a paradox), I was a rotten punk until I hit the age of 17. The one thing that kept me in line from time to time was the fear of coming home and getting a whooping administered to me.

Now I have two degrees, I'm in a stable relationship, I don't have any substance abuse issues, and I'm saving toward my first house. They did a wonderful job of rounding me into a productive member of society. Like I said before, there's no one correct way to raise a child. Every child is different and the methodology for raising and disciplining them will follow suit. The significant aspect of corporal punishment is when the line is crossed and punishment turns into abuse. That appears to be the case here. How a court of law in Texas will look at this is beyond me. But those pictures are pretty damning. And this is coming from a "victim" of corporal punishment.

The problem with that premise is that when a parent disciplines their kid through physical punishment, they are teaching their kid that violence solves problems.
