Genesis 2:4-3:24
The Fall
3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,

“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

16 To the woman he said,

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”

17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”

20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.

The big issues are that snakes cannot talk. Also we know that language and speaking evolved over thousands of years, yet they could speak.

Could this story be a fake?

Well we weren't there. So who's to say that Adam, Eve and the serpent could not talk? If we evolved from monkeys then yeah. But I don't believe that. I think God created Adam and Eve and he could give them the ability to understand each others speech.
When Nimrod built the tower of Babel, I also believe that God confused their speech so the people had to scatter.

Yeah, I can see focusing on a minor point like a talking snake in a book that is describing the creation of the universe by a supreme being. I mean how can a being like that make a snake talk?

Actually, many scholars think that the serpent is a physical being that has been possessed by Satan.

Martin Luther states it this way:

Let us therefore, establish in the first place that the serpent is a real serpent, but one that has been entered and taken over by Satan, . . .

Allegory maybe?

are you saying all of it is just a rhetorical device?

the one I have questions about is Noah and the 40 days of rain that covered the world in water.......where did the water wind up going?....I just watched waterworld and I'm equally skeptical of that movie

I'm saying in terms of its all symbolic and metaphors to teach valuable life lessons

perhaps?

Or it could be an allegory/warning to describe humanity diving in the abyss and the only thing that can save the world/humanity is by destroying everything and starting over

IDK, i was born in the late 60s, the world did not exist (to me) before that, and will cease (to me) when I die, . That is the time frame i have to worry about the most, and try to leave this a better place for future generations, which is most likely the allegory Genesis and the flood is trying to portray.

Oh.....ok, I guess......are you doing that by spreading the word?

I dont think I am here to save anyone's soul, Its up to you do as you think you need. I just wont criticize and belittle those think different than me, Ill be more than willing to have a discussion, but when it becomes a " I AM SMART, YOU STUPID" debate, then I have no interest.

and back to your original question on where the water went, there is a scientific possibility (although not proven) To me, its not that important whether or not the story of Noah is real, its more of the meaning behind it.

I'm not sure I'm clear on the context of the point you're trying to make.

The only point I've been trying to say that there's no empirical evidence of the existence of a god. In return I get a bunch of double talk between there is no proof he doesn't exist and that there's no better reasoning including evolution for life to exist.

None of it flies......

I understand your point regarding the collective need for humans to grow a conscience in order to stop eating each other and to make it easier to live together, but that train left the building a long time ago. As I have, humans should have all understood a long time ago that the golden rule is the only rule that really needs to apply.

The problem is that the age of reason also introduced the ability for the human mind to take advantage of those same people......including those who have assigned themselves the job of propagation of their subscribed faith.

I don't need a reason to be kind or to always put more on the table than I take from it. I also don't need anyone to give me credit for it. That's not why I do it. It seems that all faith is about these days is the assignment of credit or fault

Everyone knows Adam busted and ate a cherry before he even knew what an apple was.
