God I wish real journalists were this intelligent, this balanced:

No matter what comes of this, I don’t think I’ll be questioning the Patriots’ legacy. But that’s just one man’s opinion. Football is a profoundly difficult game. You could pair countless quarterbacks with countless head coaches and give them a bag of magic footballs and they’d still struggle to win a playoff game. Tom and Bill have won 20 (a record), with an ever-changing cast of characters in an ever-changing league. This Sunday’s Super Bowl may be one of their most difficult tasks yet. The Seahawks are as physical and complete a football team as I’ve seen in my seven years in the league. Beating them takes a hell of an effort. As a player, I know. We’ve been fortunate enough to beat them a few times, and we’ve always appreciated how special it was.

I know this for sure: the most perfect, pristine footballs of all time will be flying around that field in Glendale, Arizona this weekend. If the smoke clears on Monday and the Patriots are world champions, my hope is that everyone will appreciate the Patriots for sustaining one of the great runs by a franchise in league history. Either way, Bill Belichick won’t care what you think.

One of the best articles I've read through this whole sorry mess.

And there it is. The source of the hate.

Absolutely agree. Like Kid Rock says in his song "****y" "They say I'm ****y, and I say WHAT? It ain't braggin' mother #$^(@) if ya back it up!"

Good article. I think this line made a lot of sense:

The Patriots are really good at two things: winning football games and not giving a **** what you think about them. This modus operandi has earned the Patriots an equal number of fans and haters. One thing that drives people crazy is Belichick’s “less is more” school of media engagement.

The media hates BB because of the way he shuts them down. So when they saw even a glimmer of a chance to smear BB, Brady, and the Pats they took it into full witchunt mode. And pretty much turned it into this 'outrageous scandal' overnight, oh and they did it on no solid proof or evidence to boot.

And where are most of these media haters working? Wouldn't in fact be in the major media center of the country where their jealous hateful assault can get the most traction is it?

If our biggest obnoxious rival was the Kansas City Rats, the Pats wouldn't be getting smeared like they are.

Even picked up on Belichick making the media sit and wait for him before his surprise press conference.

After hitting the doldrums last week these comments along with BB, Mr. Kraft and Brady fighting back is helping me get my Superbowl buzz back..

Nicely said Chris Long... will dad pay attention??

But then again Long has roots in Boston, so there has to be a conflict of interest somewhere..

Days later, Belichick stole the show by calling an impromptu press conference and pulling the ultimate “have some” maneuver: he made the media wait, strolled in on his own schedule and went all Isaac Newton. The media, longing to get Coach Belichick’s time and attention for years, finally had it: in the form of a physics lesson. It was beautiful.

Awesome stuff there :)

Son of Charlestown native and Milford High School football star Howie Long of Fox Sports. Good bloodlines...

Knew Howie played at Milford High...didn't realize there was a Townie connection.... :)

Yes, when Howie was in his early teens he began to run with a bad crowd so his folks sent him to Milford to live with relatives. The rest is history.

One of the greatest stories I ever heard was Howie talking about his last game against the Pats, back when he was playing for the Raiders. He goes off at length talking about the fans, and how they were hiding batteries in snowballs and throwing them at the raiders on the sidelines, and when they went down the tunnel at halftime, end of game, etc.

Talks about how he saw guys just walking to the top of the stands and peeing over the side rather than try and make it to the bathrooms at the old Sullivan Stadium. He has other great comments to.

The urinals in the old Sullivan ( Schaeffer Stadium) used to back up alot.....no wonder they preferred urinating over the side...just don't be caught below or it's golden shower time..... :)

A better method would be using the method of soccer fans and rolling up a newspaper and urinating in it.....

No wonder I never got interested in soccer !
