ESPN's Ed Werder reports Richard Sherman has torn ligaments in his elbow

a torn ligament is the same as a sprain except it sounds a lot worse.

That secondary with sherman and thomas hurt got easier, but still a big challenge. I suspect their game plan is to run the heck out of marshawn lynch and keep brady on the sideline so he doesn't have too many opportunities to exploit that banged up secondary. I would stack 8 in the box and dare russell wilson to throw it. We have the cover guys to take away baldwin and kearse.

The graphic in your signature gives me an idea.

I wonder if BB ever considered having Brandon Browner play a few snaps on offense.

Earl Thomas is the better player of the two. Earl Thomas' dislocated shoulder is of more significance. Earl Thomas not being at 100% vastly improves the Patriots ability to control the middle of the field.

I am not against testing out Earl Thomas' shoulder on the Patriots first offensive play at all.

I'm not sure this game is going to be as close as everyone says with the thomas and sherman injuries...we can only hope.

Stuff like this is why Belichick would play with the injury report in the early days.

Does Tom Brady still have a sore shoulder? Those touchdown throws take their toll. Look at how much Julian Edelman had to stretch his arm during the Ravens game.

I smell some gamesmanship as well. But it should be pretty easy to see if the 'rumors' are true. Run some screen plays right at Sherman or Thomas, have a big ugly in front pancake block as Edelman or whoever scampers right behind the big guy. If it works well, prosper and do it again! If not, at least you found out something!

I smell blood in the water. Time to feast.

Since when are we sharks?

It's a football game. The team, will naturally, exploit the opponent's weaknesses through proper preparation.

I'm just kidding, TIME TO FEAST ON THEIR FLESH.

I figured they'd put Sherman on Gronk (dis-informing us until game time). Now, I doubt he will. He should be able to tackle Edelman ....... So, I'm not sure how this affects his play ( would cortisone help)?

with a hurt elbow he cant extend his arm to get a good bump. put Edelman on him and make him run quick 6 and 7 yard slants and come backs, he still has his size and speed so don't try him deep but all the quick stuff may work

Shifty WRs who get open quickly off the line are what he really struggles with anyway. The Pats should be pretty much trying to invent ways to get Amendola or Edelman lined up across from him. And since Sherman never moves, that should be easy to do. The ideal matchup for Sherman in this offense is LaFell, but I think the Pats will make a point of never lining up in a way that makes that matchup happen.

I would've felt cautiously optimistic about an Edelman/Sherman matchup even before this news. Now I think it'll be a focal point of the Pats offense.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Line up Browner as a receiver across from Sherman.....he he

I suspect in the passing game, the Patriots will probably split Gronk and Lafell out right and see if Sherman tries to press either of those two with a sprained elbow.

Thomas's injury is much worse. I've separated my shoulder a few times and it's taken about a month or close to it to fully regain my full range of motion. Those seams may not be that hard to attack after all.

If you see LaFell lining up in front of Sherman expect a run (laFell is a nasty blocker).

I had the same injury last year - hurt it in late June bench pressing (I heard the damned thing tear - disgusting). I was able to continue playing softball for the season - left elbow, i throw right.

It felt okay and it took me a while to understand the difference. Last year was the first year since 1976 I didn't hit any home runs. sherman will play, no doubt, and he'll look like Sherman, to a degree, but he won't be able to perform to the top of his game.

The tougher team wins this game. Oline, dline

Remember in 2011 when gronkowskis high ankle sprain was downplayed until the superbowl where we saw the extent of the injury?

Who downplayed Gronk's ankle sprain? Anyone seeing the footage knew it was a serious problem with the way it twisted.
