Patriots decline option on Wilfork - Vince is a free agent

The Colts have a lot of money and need a run stuffer at DT. Vince will more than likely be going there.

IDK, he doesn't seem to fit their system. They seem to like smaller, faster d-linemen. Their starting NT from last year was listed at 316 lbs.

I really hope he would get there look At them in the face tell them to eff off and announce his retirement.

Why in God's name would he do that? This is a business and he should do what's best for him. If he can get higher dollars there to cash in before he hits retirement, he should absolutely do it and not give a **** what the fans think.

And that's why they got run over in the AFCCG. Pagano isn't dumb. Their run defense is atrocious and has been chewed up and spit out by the Pats two years in a row. Vince would go a long way toward fixing that.

Nothing in the message indicates he wouldn't come back for 2015. It all depends on the market for a 33-year-old nose tackle. Offers will be there, but with whom and where will matter.

All he knows is winning. Wilfork's been to four Super Bowls, won two. I can't see him going to a non-contender.

Whatever happens, he's a sure-fire first ballot Patriots hall inductee, and probably an NFL HOFer.

Good luck big fella. We were fortunate to watch him play for 11 years as a New England Patriot.

Over Knighton? Ngata? And there will be others. if I were teh Colts and I had a lot of money, I'd probably make a run at Ngata.

Knighton and Ngata will probably command higher dollars than Vince can at this point in his career. They can still offer him more than what the Pats can, he shores up a problem for them, and they don't have to give him as much as the afformentioned two.

The next thing that should happen is a restructuring of Mayo. If they do that and cut ties with Big Vince, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for not extending Revis and signing McCourty. It's tough, but looking at it from an either/or standpoint (which could change if Vince comes back at a lower cap hit), I would rather have McCourty and Revis back with a big body at DT on a rookie contract. This is a tough cut to swallow because I've always loved Vince. Hopefully there are no hard feelings and the Pats can replace him admirably.

No, that cannot happen next.

Mayo has an injury guarantee that effectively prevents any re-do until he passes his physical in June.

Pats are in a tough spot cap-wise retain the SB championship team.

Kraft & BB listened to Patsfans too much and gave too much cap $ to the players. :)

IDK, Pagano isn't dumb, but most head coaches stick to their systems. He knows he needs to upgrade his run defense, but that doesn't mean he is willing to change his defensive philosophy to do it.

I have no problem with this. It was a "clean" break-up. Vince has been one of my favorite players of all time.. in any sport, just love the big fella! That said, he wasn't worth this cap # and the patriots did the right thing by not picking up option rather than getting into another testy contract negotiation.

That's only his philosophy with the Colts so far and it's pretty much what he walked into. You'll recall the Ravens had bigger bodies at DT when he was running his defense there.

But even in Baltimore they were more about speed than Big Vince has.

The market will be interesting with Suh and Ngata out there. I would love to see Vince return and remember what the D looked like last year with him out. But he has not been one to cave readily in contract negotiations, and the Pats do not pay out of sentimentality. Unless the market dives, I wouldn't expect to see him return.

now, if pats dedicate that money to mccourty and Revis I will be happy.

Wilfork certainly wasnt worth 8.5million

LMAO. Terrence Cody is more about speed than Big Vince? You're joking, right?

^^ Greased lightning right there.

On to the football field, what caliber of player do we think we are losing?

Since 2011 to now, Wilfork's gone from an All-Pro to what, a solid starter?

And before everyone starts the DT panic, IMO BB likes Siliga alot. He will get a chance at replacing Vince IMO. Underrated player.

Depth is definitely a need, but I wouldn't be shocked if Siliga-Easley emerge as a solid duo.

And what did that get them in terms of a run defense?

Really stinks but who knows, he could be back.......
