$40 million guaranteed is record breaking. By a lot. By nearly $15M for a Cb.

Maybe $40m over 3 years. But Peterson & Sherman got $40m guaranteed

He doesn't want to guarantee the money any business man would want a out. Revis doesn't want to get played like we have so many other players before.

We cant let him go to a division rival.
Looks like we should of picked up the option.

Will Revis do that though he maybe irritated he has to squabble with Bill vs Rex and Woody they are stroking his massive ego.
Revis is very proud.
Rex?

Side note: If Vince still has gas in the tank that D-Line in Houston would be filthy good.

Id take the risk with guarentees. pay the man!
Same risk apply to other Patriots in the future? Rising cap or not, 2017 is going to be a big offseason for the Patriots given the level of talent up for renewal.

I don't mind offering Revis 36 guaranteed with the ability to earn 45. Those few million do make a difference down the line.

Its funny to me how fans watch a franchise go through the best 15 run in NFL history, based mostly on discipline in everything they do, particularly personnel decisions, which said discipline creates transactions that otherwise couldn't be done if they lacked the discipline to hold the line on their convictions, and we sit here watching people freak over one decision and expect the Patriots to make the decision the Jets would.

I don't think it is a coincidence that it took ten years to win another superbowl until we had good defense again and Revis is the key to the defense.

I think its total coincidence that a UDFA rookie from Div II made a play Asante Samuel, Rodney Harrison, Pierre Woods, LeKevin Smith, and Wes Welker did not.

All these Super Bowls were decided by a play or two. And the 2007 unit was a good defense.

The rumors are saying 16 a year gets it done. Thats far better than the option. If the Pats just pull the damn trigger.

No thanks at 16 per and 40 guaranteed. I hope the jets over pay for him and we get the chance to kick his teams ass twice a year.

Tough call. Still have Hightower, Collins and Jones to think about. Also Solder. Either way some people will be happy in the short run and unhappy about the LB core being broke up in the future.

really not too bad a deal for an island

We don't know what has really been discussed.
It seems clear that NEP are letting Revis see what the market is, while keeping an open dialog to potentially match it.

If you were Revis, it would be a smart strategy so far -- don't agree to anything yet, keep letting more teams get in on the frenzy, try to push up prices, while seeing how high the Pats will go in terms of matching.

This could go on for a few days easily...

I'd match the reported offer. I agree with all of you there.

But those of you who are acting like it is some sort of good deal and too good to pass up are insane.

That would be us paying a premium for a premium player. Like I said, I would do it. But it's not like it is some fantastic deal we are talking about.

Except Brady will be going on 40. That may be the year for the big changeover. Until then we still have a couple of top years left. Not all years are equal.

I don't want the Pats to over pay for Revis. We can and will still be a superbowl contender with or without him.

better he goes there than a real contender tbh.

the fact that we're only apparently willing to give in the mid 30s disgusts me
