Pats sign WR Brandon Gibson

Brandon Gibson is a pretty good receiver, I like the signing.

If I recall correctly he had a couple of decent seasons in St. Louis playing on the outside, when Amendola was on the inside as the slot receiver - about 50 receptions, 700 or so yards - i.e., about the numbers Brandon LaFell had with Carolina. Then he had a knee injury and was moved inside to the slot when he signed with Miami.

Maybe the Pats are thinking he's fully recovered now, and would put him outside again?
Or perhaps they're thinking leave him in the slot and he can take Amendola's place for a lot less money?

My dad the Fins fan looooves Gibson. Always complained that he didn't get enough playing time. I have seen flashes of pretty good play out of him. He's no guarantee to make the roster, but I think we'll see him at some point this season.

For 1 year, $825K I'll take it. For the money that's pretty reasonable WR depth. Has a penchant for looking good and then getting injured. If he can stay healthy he could significantly outproduce his salary.
Hopefully we are all surprised by his production, highly improbable though.

OK. I was wondering how we'd replace Tyms.

Quintessential BB signing.

Didn't he play with a little bit of swagger against us last year as a Dolphin?

He's the guy that got into it with Browner

Not surprised at all.
Perhaps, extra leverage to get Amendola to restructure his contract.

Gibson was cut so will not factor into any possible compensatory draft pick calculations and will also qualify for minimum veterans salary cap benefit ( will only count 625K against the cap) according to Miguel.
From reported details Brandon Gibson should qualify for Minimum Salary Benefit - lowering cap hit of salary from $745K to $585K.Cap=625K

[Since Brandon Gibson was released by Dolphins in February, will not count in 2016 comp pick calculations/QUOTE]

Ya not a headline signing but still if Gibson sticks he is a definite improvement over Tyms. It's a move a typical BB March signing that could pay off at helping depth that could payoff in the season.

Edelman, LaFell, Amendola, Dobson, Boyce ... Where would Gibson fit in here?

Gibson is a good minimal-cost signing who can compete for the #4 or 5 WR spot with Dobson and Boyce.

A bit more reality-based than what the Dolphins originally bargained for. I can see him sticking in a reserve role here.

for 825k, can I get some catches like this:

$40K buys us competition for Dobson, Tyms and Boyce.
