Don't thank Mevis for ring #4. Thank this guy...

Revis took less to come to the patriots in 2014, played at an all pro level and helped a team win a sb that didn't won in ten seasons.

.
Yup. If he had gone to a team that is a serious contender for the SB, (Indy,Sea, GB,) I could understand it. But to go to that dumpster fire of a team proves that it is "all about the money". More power to him but at what point do you think about your legacy and how maybe one or two more Lombardi trophies solidifies it versus $1 or $2 million when you've earned over $100 million in you career? Yes an NFL career is limited but at the top levels, several generations of Revises couldn't spend it all and to paraphrase Ty Law, " I think he will be able to feed his family"....

Tom's sacrifice may be uncommon, but not as uncommon as an NFL wife that makes $40M/year. That changes his circumstances, a bit no? Most of these guys have stay at home wives and/or baby momma(s) (oops forgot that Tommy does too!).

Odd argument. Creepy, in fact.

Without Brady continuously taking pay cuts to help free up cap space, there's no way we could've signed Mevis to begin with.

I wish there was an emoticon greater than Thread winner and happy face...this is the medicine we all need today!!

Oh please. Tom and wifey made more than $78M in 2014. That's more than Revis's entire contract. Let's get real here people. Calling Revis out for taking the best deal is pathetic.

Tom Brady has been making team friendly decisions long before he married Gisele Bundchen. And why is calling Revis out "pathetic"? McCourty took less money to stay. Is he pathetic? Oh boo hoo, how could one EVER live on 12 million a year? Or even ten? If you are even a little bit smart you are set for life. Darrelle is money first, championship a distant second. And IMO, THAT's pathetic.

And let's not get started on the feed my family b.s. Here's an idea, how about you use that money on helping them get the job they want so they can support themselves.

I'll try and find the bright side here...

The Pat's pay Revis ~15 mil for one superbowl win.

The Jet's pay him > 100 mil for 8 and 8 coin flip seasons.

I hope Mevis shatters both knees on his first day of TC and never plays another down again.

So much wrong here. Brady's current deal is paying him half what he's worth. I find it hard to believe that he would have taken such a deal if his family did not have another, larger source of income. How can you say that it played no role in his decision? His previous deal was the highest ever for a QB when signed (2010). The deal before that (2005) was smaller than Manning ($26M guaranteed vs. $35M guaranteed), but Brady was still perceived as somewhat of a game manager at that time (and his stats were not spectacular). Regardless, it was still top 3 QB money.

McCourty, in his words, got everything he wanted from the Pats. It is the most guaranteed money ever received by a safety, I believe. He claims he turned down more, but how much more? $1M, 2M? Can't imagine it was more than that. We don't know. Who's to say Revis wouldn't have taken $37M or 38M from the Pats if they offered? At some point, the gap becomes so large where the player and his agent cannot in good conscience advise to take the smaller deal. Football is a violent game and careers can turn and end on one play. Yes, it truly is pathetic that people would begrudge a player for seeking his value when that is considered the American Way in every other business under the sun. Particularly when the NFL career is so short.

And it is also silly to suggest that staying here guarantees more championships. With Revis on the books the Pats would not be able to build much depth at other positions. Everything went right for the Pats this year and they STILL were a yard away from losing. It is presumptuous to assume that the Pats will win another SB within the next 5 years, especially when Brady is only likely to be around for 3 of those. Revis can also justify the decision that he is going to a team with a better defensive line that will make him look even better.

The offense carried the team last year. The secondary was good, and Revis was a big reason for that, but the offense averaged 36 points per game in the post season and destroyed a lot of good defenses in the regular season.

Just keep that in mind.

The offense carried the team in all the prior playoff losses too!

That was an entirely different offense and its output was sub 20 points more often than not in those losses.

Last year's offense was much better and much more suited for postseason football. Hopefully it will stay mostly intact.

stop making sense

Revis can do whatever he wants, and I respect that (and thank him for his contributions this year), but Brady really is the anti-Revis. Love that he's on our team. And as long as he is, we'll always have a chance at another Lombardi.

Hey who was that guy that got the interception to win the superbowl for us? Wasn't Revis #24 last time I checked....you know If this thread says we should thank Tom Brady, do you know that Brady is thanking the guy in your sig. for winning the superbowl for him?

This isn't the 80s anymore, roster management is everything these days. The patriots have 4 rings and more victories than any other team to validate the way they operate. Revis has a ring, 39 mil guarantee and will be 30 next season, there is very little motivation factor left for him if you ask me. He will be added to a long list of players that have come and gone in New England. As for the jets, that move will come back and bite them as they taking a big risk by giving him all that money.

I love Revis. He is an excellent player and was a key contributor in a SB winning season !

Wish he stayed, but let's not bash the guy - he played hard and played Well.
