Drafted running backs are so cheap you can literally replace them as their contracts expire and pick up the production with the new breed coming through. It's a 4-5 cycle before moving on.

I'm not concerned if the Patriots don't add a FA RB. There are plenty of good ones available in the draft.

We also have james white, so not getting bush is no big deal

There is something to be said about having a veteran guy in the third down back role. He has seen all the different blitz packages that the NFL has to offer. I'm not sure you want to trust your franchise QB's health on a rookie (or second year player with no experience) being able to spot those blitzes.

If he can be had at the right price, I think Bush could be an asset. Plus once he signs, I will create a new profile as "Booger" and start a thread titled, "We have Bush":D

I want Harvin's talent any basically anyone elses reliability, does that exist?

I also have mixed feelings on Harvin being as much as a headcase as we all think he is.

He wasn't exactly shipped off from Minnesota, Seattle paid a kings ransom, and it only seems like he had major issues with a small number of players in the locker room which may have been issues too big to contain, if I remember correctly, he had quite a bit of support after being shipped away from players who were surprised and upset.

The Jets tried to make him their #1 in a system he didn't know with one of the leagues worst QB situations while making top tier WR money.

He was only really shipped off from one team for not meshing with a few players, not everyone is made to get along.

All of that said, Harvin is not an RB, I'd love Bush AND Harvin, or Spiller AND Harvin, but Harvin does not fill the 3rd down RB role exclusively.

You may change your mind about Harvin. He apparently is looking to be a pure WR in his next position and not be a gadget player when he does a little of everything. I think he is stupid because the thing that makes him attractive to teams is all the things he can do at WR, RB, and special teams. As a pure WR, his value is far less.

A source to me on what's important to Harvin after speaking with him. "A lot of people have lied to him and told Percy [Harvin] that when he plays on their team he will be a traditional wide receiver, but if you look over the course of his career that certainly hasn't always been the case. My understanding is that Percy wants to play the position full-time or get closer to that. He doesn't want to be the gadget guy all the time. He's grown tired of that. He wants to have a defined wide receiver role. I'm not saying he doesn't want to ever catch the ball out of the backfield again or run a bubble screen. He''l do whatever it takes to help the team win. I just think he wants to be respected as a traditional wide receiver threat."

He's not a 7 foot WR who runs a 4.13 40 with a 6.23 second 3-cone, 3.45 20 shuttle, 48" vert, 12' LJ and has 43 inch arms with 13" hands and benches 225 80 times, so, no, I don't want him.

Someone should be truthful with him and tell him that if he comes to NE his position is "football player", and with that comes rings. Maybe have Troy Brown give him a call.

I don't really take issue with that second quote... The way I interpreted it was that Harvin really wants to be successful as a WR in addition to his other uses. Nothing wrong with a guy wanting to hone his craft. He's not saying "don't use me anywhere but out wide", seems more like he's saying "I will line up wherever you want when needed, but I would like to be used frequently as a receiver too."

Not an expert here by far...but what about AP? Clayton says it wouldn't cost much.

Its going to be James White just like what vereen did 2 yrs ago.

Let's rent Bush for a year. I don't trust White yet. Pats 'rental' strategy worked to win us a superbowl before. Revis/Browner played key roles in the SB run. Now both gone. I think we need to 'rent' an experienced 3rd down back for a year or two until we develop one who is reliable to step up for the departure of Vereen.
