Did he play well last year? Haven't done any reading on him yet.

Looks like VW has 3 2yr 10m deals on the table. Wonder what you he guaranteed money is and how that impacts Red. In theory Red should be a less.

Not sure, found this:

@DougKyedNESN: Red Bryant isn't as versatile as Nick Fairley, Terrance Knighton or Randy Starks, but he's probably the best run-stuffer available.

@SiriusXMNFL: FA Tracker: The #Jaguars will be releasing DE Red Bryant today. Bryant started all 16 games in Jacksonville last year.

Might be cheaper/younger option than Vince.

Red should be less than VW........hell, he should be less than Joe Vellano

Thanks. Yea that's what I remember the skinny being on Red wjen the Pats were after him. Not much of a pass rusher but big time vs the run.

I'm good on him. I live in Jacksonville and see a good amount of Jags games. This isn't the Red Bryant of 2012 anymore. He's fallen off a bit. My priority DT are Knighton, Wilfork, Fairley, and Starks... in that order.

Holy crap, Illegal. We might agree here...

I like Vellano. Just doesn't have the bulk.

So the questions come down to:

Do you trust Nick Fairley to play it 100%?
Will you pay Knighton's price?
Can Starks stop the run?
Is VW worth having back over Bryant?

Re-watched the second half of the Super Bowl last night. I didn't notice it at the time, but it was Siliga not Vince that played nose tackle. He played it the way Vince did in 2011-2012. Vince was relegated to a rotational tackle, and was mostly ineffective and singly (if not easily) blocked at that.

LOL. Harvin in our system does intrigue me though. He can line up all over the field, and he's a great kick returner/STer. We will probably bump up our scoring average by adding Harvin. And we might need that if we can't find comparable replacements for Revis/Browner on the market.

For some Pats fans, the best way to replace the 2 starting CB's we just lost is with WR'S

In fact for some of our brethren, adding WR's is the solution for EVERYTHING.....including cancer. ;)

If they got him on a prove it type deal 2-yr deal with little guaranteed money i'd take that risk. Remember he's been with the Lions his career so probably wasn't the best spot.. Hell BB even got Haynesworth to buy in for a few months.

Will you pay Knighton's price?
Yes Knighton immediately improves run defense and pass rush. Remember Collins and Hightower up the middle and that was with a subpar interior push. You get Knighton and Fairley in the middle Collins and Hightower are gonna have holes the size of a street to blast thru.

If they are gonna go with the secondary they have need to invest in immediate improvement in the DL.

That matches my impressions (which are by no means comprehensive or expert). He simply became easy to block with a single interior lineman. That just doesn't fulfill the job description.

Yes, and...how does he react to being inactive for a game where the game plan is all about power running?

I don't see why you wouldn't just bring VW back.......anyone who can do as much will cost more....anyone who will cost the same or less will not yield close to the same result.

In order to satisfy those who are concerned about his value, there can be an incentive for playing time. There is nobody in the price range that can come close to the snap count that VW can put up......I will admit that this needs to go hand in hand with an eventual replacement. but that replacement needs at least a year to get the system down. and if there is 2/10 on the table elsewhere, he will play here for 2/8, otherwise, he would have already been gone

1. No
2. Yes
3. Unsure
4. Yes

VW might have worn down a little. He played a ton of snaps last year. He can still be very effective.

For some reason I thought Pot Roast was in his 30s. Realized last night he's only 28. Definitely my preferred option at DT.

what about B.J. Raji from the Packers? He was injured last year and might come cheap; don't know how he performed before and if he would fit?

Besides that I would strongly support signing Knighton: he would be an instant upgrade against the rush and the pass on the DL.
An interior of Knighton, Siliga, Easley, C. Jones looks pretty strong to me and effective against both the rush and the pass.

Siliga is a beast. He doesn't get enough credit here. He saved the DL 2 years ago with Vince and Kelly hurt. He battled through his own injuries last year and contributed mightily down the stretch. And he is a locker room favorite.

Siliga and Easily might be enough but I don't trust it so we need Vet depth but I think those thinking we need 2 of the FA big men are going overboard.

Why do you assume he would be inactive?

Just about every Patriot skill player not named Brady has been at some point, based on game plan, so a requirement of being one is that you can put your ego aside when that happens and remain a positive influence on the team. There are indications that he can't do that.
