Seriously...why is it taking so long?

If Goodell fines the Patriots for something completely and utterly out of their control Kraft will rain hell fire on him, I can feel it. Goodell is not that stupid to bring that down.

Your words to God's ears! Wish I could be as confident in Goodell's lack of complete incompetence.

Florio was on WEEI this morning and was asked about DFG. He didn't have much new to say but here were a few things I found mildly interesting (not much new, but it was mildly interesting to me to hear a hater like Florio saying them):

He said "they've gone radio silent over there".

He said it's pretty clear that there's no chain of custody for the balls and no system for telling if they are at the right pressure.

He believes the report will be "inconclusive".

When asked why he thought it was taking so long he said that Wells is having the balls tested under lab conditions mimicking the weather that night and that "they need to work out a way to extract Goodell from this minefield that someone placed him in. Like Grigson or Kensil." And he noted that Kensil's father is a former NYJ president.

The more I think Goodell is sitting at his office like Coach Klein off of the Waterboy asking everyone...
Does anyone have any idea's.

If the science definitely proves that the weather would affect the balls in the exact way it happened how on earth is that "inconclusive"? It would be suspicious if the balls WEREN'T affected by the weather.

Someone noted that when Goodell gave his "State of the NFL" conference before the Super Bowl, it was the first time that Kraft hasn't been there for it.

I don't know why Kraft supported Goodell in the wake of Rice/Peterson-gate, but it's been noted elsewhere that if Goodell loses Kraft, his Goose-dell is cooked.

I'm not resting until Wells explains the one ball out of the 11 being 2 PSi under while the other 10 were a few ticks low. And whether that outlier ball was the one on the Colts sideline after the DQwell Jackson INT.

I also want the report to admit that it was the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS who first asked the league officials about the veracity of the football pressure due to the kicking balls being flat.

This thread titled "Why Is It Taking So Long" was started 33 days ago. And there still is no Wells report.

THAT tells you everything.

The explanation is simple. It is exactly the same explanation as 90% of the leaked reports: The information is wrong.

It is NOT POSSIBLE that this story is correct. And it has NOTHING to do with the Patriots, the Colts, or anybody who had contact with those balls.

EVERY. SINGLE. BALL. ever played with in the NFL, that was filled at room temp (~72°F) and then exposed for a long period (~90 minutes) to ~50°F air & ~46°F rain, will lose 1.5 psi of pressure.

(Note that Tom Brady took out the other 0.5 psi, by setting his preferred pressure to 12.5 psi, instead of the nominal 13.0 psi.)

EVERY ball on the Patriots side was down at around 11.0 psi. Every one.
EVERY ball on the Colts side was 1.5 psi below whatever value it was set to in the locker room before the game. Every one.

These are the "Gas Laws". Not the "Gas Suggestions".
Mother Nature allows No Substitutions.

Reporters can't get squat correct.

Do you have any reference to this? It's the first time I've heard anything about it.

Well today was already a massive kick in the balls. I can't wait for some new bulls*** to suddenly come up about this. Maybe the Patriots water boy mixed up the Gatorade coolers and the Colts got orange instead of yellow flavored, which messed up their concentration and caused them to lose.

If you read through the threads you'll find it. It was back about 3 weeks ago when that info came out.

I figure they'll release the story right before the draft so it can be quickly buried with "other" NFL stories.

Well, if Wells has indeed finally interviewed Brady and Belichick I'd imagine that means the investigation is finally over (or almost over). They'd certainly be the logical people to interview last.

Now, the report still has to be written up.

I'm going with the people who have posited that it will be released after the owners' meeting. That way Goodell can skip town without having to talk about it. Or if he does, he can talk about it at the end. Releasing it before the meeting means people will be bugging him about it every day, plus people will be bugging the owners about it.

Though there's a strong counter-argument. Reportedly a new ball-handling protocol will be proposed to the owners at the meeting. It'll be hard to present that while simultaneously saying "We developed the protocol based on the DFG investigation, but we're not releasing the report until later". Owners (reasonably) will want to see the report so they can better judge the usefulness/need of the proposed new protocol.

My long-term concern is while it's not deserved, the accumulating Hatriot feelings will hurt a number of Patriots making the HoF. BB and TB can't be denied. Kraft and Ty Law gets in. But the rest will need more help....out of 45, only 9 can keep a candidate out of the HoF. In 15 or 20 years, expect to hear various excuses to hide they just don't like the Patriots, then you see players with equal or less credentials get in.

The selection committee needs way more than 45 doing the selection with more input from coaches/players, and the ballots be made public, just like the Supreme Court.

You are making too much sense there rlcarr.. which means there's almost no chance it happens that way. The NFL will find a way to screw this up even further.

So tomorrow brings us at the end of yet another week. Will there be any new developments? Stay tuned. (there won't be)

Actually, I think Fridays hold the biggest chance of release.

Agree, but if they just interviewed Brady and Belichick over the past week or two--which is what it sounds like--my guess is they'll need another few weeks to compile the findings, and another chunk of time to review with Goodell to determine any punishment for involved parties and THEN determine a release date.

I think we're looking at mid-April, personally.

Imagine how long it will take to investigate the Jets and their Revis tampering .. that will drag on for so long, everyone will forget about it.

Or maybe that is the idea..

Remember when conflict of interest meant something, I always preferred an appearance of impropriety..
