Is this the worst FA period for the Pats in the last 10 Years?

$25M for a 30 year old CB in a league that doesn't even allow coverage and has become mostly spread offenses.
I too think $25 for a CB is crazy. But just because of that you shouldn't try to diminish how good he is. He's still worth a lot of money($14M per year, not 16 or 25) because he can still cover in this league. That's what separates these top corners. They can cover extremely well with rules that we have. Browner on the other hand...

how dare you share your opinion on this board if it doesnt shed the Patriots front office as geniuses. You must only be a patriots fan since they started winning. HONKKKKK

No one's saying you can't have these opinions or even voice them. Just that the ranting, hysterical stylings of these posts in March makes us think maybe you just need a little nap.

As far as I can tell DW Toys exists for 3 primary reasons:

1. To call everyone 'cousin'.

2. To propose outlandish trades that even Maddden wouldn't touch.

3. 'Sky is falling' passive/aggressive threads.

I note the lack of threads during the actual season when we are busily winning games.

nobody says that you cant have your opinions, but if you criticize BB or the patriots front office you are a hysterical ranter...hmmmm

I do agree with some of the sentiments in your post.

CB is especially troublesome, given that it looks like a scheme change - reverting to a style we've seen (and won with before) but do not particularly enjoy (especially being bad at getting off the field on 3rd down) is the team's plan of action. It's just hard in the NFL to get high multiple high performance secondary players while not making major sacrifices elsewhere.

However, much of the rest of what you've said I would consider under the label of "year to year roster churn." I think you over-rate the "misses" on guys like Johnson, Harvin or Bush. If they were potentially crucial additions, they would have been given offers that reflect that the Patrtiots felt that way. Perhaps there were some guys out there who were closer to an A+ rating that the Patriots didn't get due to a lack of clarity with the McCourty and Revis situations, but we can really only speculate there.

I admit that losing Wilfork sucks - but it's fan attachment that drives me to say that. I might still be convinced to try and sign guys like Bruschi, Harrison, Vrabel, Law, McGinest, etc... but that's probably a sign I'm not in a good place to run a team like the Patriots.

I mentioned at the start that I agreed with your sentiments because I had a similar thought earlier today - geez it sucks to see this team come apart a bit. It sucks to have some uncertainty about how the defense will shape up and perform, especially with no obvious place to turn for alternatives (like last year when Revis replaced Talib). But then I talked myself off the ledge, because it's March. Because the team will evolve a lot in training camp. Because the first few weeks of the season count, but don't necessarily define who the team will be for the remainder of the year. All that jazz helps me remember that the sex appeal of March signings often creates false hopes and artificially high expectations.

You literally started your particular post with "RANT BEGIN".

Honestly other than Revis what FA have the Pats really missed on? They didn't sign Bush but that seems more about his injury issues, seriously who haven't they signed?

Is it a Johnny Drama kind of "cousin"?

That's what's called a false dilemma.

The O.P. actually posted an interesting general question. I have not done enough research in this area to answer the question with conviction, but kudos for the interesting thread starter.

Yep. $25m guaranteed for Revis is not a problem....as long as he stays healthy, performs and the cap isn't "handicapped" to the point of being unable in keeping good, young talent and fielding a competitive team capable of winning a Super Bowl.

If any of those variables do not align, then you need to ask if the player is worth it.

Considering we just won the superbowl it's actually one of the best offseason in 10 years

The Super Bowl was during the season, not the offseason.

If I put my user name after every post I make, will that make me sound professional too?

It's been a great offseason. I still love thinking about the fact that we won the Super Bowl, and I'm sure that will continue on until camp. I love thinking about how much angst this has caused the people who loathe this football team.

Certainly a lot better than having to stomach another SB loss or an early playoff exit and hearing the non stop hee hawing about not winning one since spygate.

It's entirely possible to have the result of a season form or shape a person's attitude toward the offseason Deus.

Unbelievable....

Now you just being an ass cause your feelings we're hurt.

It's been an unremarkable offseason following a tremendous season. I'm still in enjoyment mode but if they had lost in the SB or during the playoffs, I'd be underwhelmed at the moves so far
