Classic Kraft/Belichick - ponies instead of horses :D....spend 15M on 7 guys, pick the best one, cut the rest instead of 15M on one guy...it's worked, sort of, in the past, and has come home to roost in the playoffs/super bowl....i'm not thinking they go back to back with this strategy.
Since BB arrived in 2001, the Patriots have won 21 playoffs games. No other team has won more than 12. The average team has won 4.8. The Patriots have won 4 SBs, the next best is 2, and 23 of 32 teams have won none.
If what you don't like has come home to roost in the playoffs, I hope we keep doing it.

I think every fan on here would trade an incredible shot at a repeat this season with Revis, Browner, etc. for the resultant "cap jail" in 2 years....heck, it was FUN watching last year's team on defense and it was TORTURE watching the defense of 08-13 (sans the few games Talib was healthy)...
From 08-13 the Patriots were 4th in the NFL in points allowed. I guess it was torture watching all but 3 NFL defenses? From 08-13 the Patriots won 72 games, 12 per season. Second best was NO at 63 or 10.5 per season. I'd rather be 'tortured' watching my team win than watching them play a really cool style while losing.
You seem to disagree.

Oh! Oh man another Triumph! This is almost as good as LaFail! Remember that one guys, oh that was a good one whatever happened to that loser he friggin suuuuucked

@Hercules Rockefeller what is to dislike about this post?

Are people thinking Arrington is on shaky ground?

Of course, you never know how roster spots and roles will evolve in training camp, but I wouldn't think that Arrington is on shaky ground. I think that, as of today, he would be pencilled in as the starter in the slot. With Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler (and perhaps Dennard) on the outsides. The Pats will be looking to add veteran and rookie depth at all all three CB positions. Whether that added depth ends up starting ahead of the returning players or behind them as backups, who knows? That will all sort itself out between now and September/October.

My sense is that the Pats brain trust likes Arrington a lot covering certain types of receivers (small quick) and not so much covering other types (tall jump ball Joe types).

Smart phone madness Andy, I was trying to hit agree. I actually couldn't agree with you more. Fixed and thanks for pointing that out. If I disagree I like to elaborate. You said everything that needed to be said

I agree with everything that you have said. I consider Arrington valuable to this team. However, he has a 2015 cap number of $4.6m and a 2016 cap number of $5.1m. They save $3m if he is a post June 1 but I assume they'd rather him be with the team at a reduced rate/lower cap #.

Is there a difference?

I think there's a bit of upside to Robert McClain.

- If it turns out he really sucks, then he will probably not make it out of training camp.
- If he's decent, he's a backup CB and likely core special teamer at a rather affordable price.
- If he's good, he gets snaps at one of the outer CB positions, which he looked decent at in Atlanta in 2012.

I heard references to him as slot depth.......he's 5'9"

I see little to nothing for no risk......

He played slot the last two years due to Atlanta having Alford and Trufant. Before Trufant arrived he played outside and was decent.

Not at all, and actually was confirmed by a number of posts in this and the Fletcher thread.

Still waiting to see all those posts pimping these signings, though.
You're right. People actually wailed and gnashed their teeth when they heard about this signing. /sarcasm

Slap in the face, travesty, Pats the laughingstock of the NFL, Kraft hoarding his filthy lucre, etc. etc.

You're so right. What was I thinking.
