Kraft was right to not give Parcels full control because he had no understanding of cap economics, he ran the team one season at a time, and had a serious itch to build and go elsewhere, so he really wasn't concerned about the long term health of the team because he wasn't going to be there anyways. Parcels was a great coach but giving him full control is a bad idea.

Kraft didn't luck into Belichick he made a play for him that moved Parcels to suddenly step down and declare himself GM, which Belichick rejected because he was not going have Parcels making the decisions that would seal his future. Kraft then gave up big picks to get the deal done. That wasn't "lucky" that was really smart, he ended up with the GOAT coach and GOAT QB. So you can think he's as lame as you want to but you still won't be able to find an owner in the free agency era who has done a better job, and when asked to you didn't even try.

We have been fortunate, very fortunate over the past 15 years (and counting) to be able to enjoy a GOAT QB, GOAT HC/GM and GOAT owner.

Count 'em please, FOUR championships folks, next September I get to look across from my seats and see FOUR championship banners (i know, it could have and really SHOULD have been 6 if helmit catch is not made and Welker catch is made). But, we have FOUR championships now baby!!

In salary cap / free agent era, FOUR championships speaks for itself , I am positive, even if four is it, no team will come close to four. I happen to think 6 or 7 will be the final number, one or two more for Brady and BB wins one without him, but nobody will get four ever again

Let the debate rage on about all kinds of what ifs and could have should have's, but, please, recognize greatness when we have it.

Kraft lucked into hiring a coach he had to wait for, then spend draft picks on?

What do you think he is, a leprechaun?
The fact is that BB would not have resigned from the Jets if Leon Hess did not die and the team was sold. Parcells then pulled his stunt and made him head coach to extract the draft picks.THe death of Hess which precipitated the matter was luck.

That is a really odd of interpretation of "luck."

Good thing Leon died?

It sure was for Kraft and the Pats.

We disagree. The only reason Parcells stepped down as coach was because he knew Kraft was firing Carroll to hire Belichick. So, as per usual. Parcells decided to turn it into a dog and pony show and anoint himself GM and Belichick his successor, a stunt I don't think Hess would have been fooled by or accepted from Parcells.

Make no mistake,, Kraft went after Belichick, got him, albeit at a price, and ended up with the best franchise in the league. Good for him, great job. Don't know why anyone would begrudge him that?

So i take it everyone would be surprised to see the pats fined? If they are fined...i am not so sure i will be surprised..the NFL is run like my previous job...a joke

I still feel as if the NFL comes out and says..no wrong doing..they will look like complete idiots (everyone already knows this however) but they will come up with a way to save face somehow...it's goodell we are talking about here..pure slime ball

I disagree. BB had a clause in his contract with Hess for which he was paid a million dollars that he would be the next head coach of the Jets. Given Parcells history of changing jobs, if Hess had remained owner, I tend to believe he would have waited until he got the chance. We ill never know what might have been. Regardless of how it occurred Kraft made the right move hiring him. If he had supported BB in 2007 and avoided the repercussions of the aftermath, I would totally agree with your opinion of Kraft

How do you know? BB and Kraft had talked and BB was not too fond of being tied to Parcells forever.

I think the death of Hess was just his excuse, he would never be his own man with the jets as long as Parcells was alive.

Please can this thread be closed? There's not point of further discussion right now. When new info comes out make a new thread.

Actually, you can't make new threads now, as far as I know. Besides, what are you, the thread terminator?

I've been reading this thread and I've been thinking about the notion that the league will assess some sort of penalty on the Patriots, even if the investigation finds no wrongdoing by the team. From what Reiss said, the league was having trouble finding evidence of any deliberate action that someone removed air from the footballs. He then said he thinks there will still be a fine if the league can't find any evidence of that someone deliberately tampered with the footballs. To me, that doesn't make any sense - "You didn't do anything wrong. Your punishment will be..."

It's not unheard of for the league to look into a potential rules violation and determine no penalty is warranted. I can think of the allegations that the Jets tampered with Deion Branch and Michael Crabtree, the Colts pumping in crowd noise, the Saints GM tapping into opposing team's communications, and Favre's sexting as a member of the Jets. All of these situations resulted in zero punishment from the league after the investigations were complete and I'm sure there are other examples.

I understand the arguments that Goodell is incompetent/unpredictable and that, even though it defies science and common sense, the league can say the footballs weren't at the specified PSI at some point during the first half of the AFCCG. If the league goes down that path, though, that would mean they are fining the Patriots, basically, because they want to, not that they have any evidence of a rules violation. As much as other organizations might dislike the Patriots, that's a dangerous precedent to set.

If there is concern by the league that they will look bad if they don't punish the Patriots, they're missing the fact that they already look bad because of all the leaks during the week after the AFCCG and their almost total silence from an official standpoint, not to mention that they have let this situation drag on for 2 months.

If they have no evidence of any wrongdoing, then choosing to issue a fine to appease the Patriots haters will damage the league's integrity more than if someone actually deflated those footballs. This will be especially true if the report shows that Kensil was running some sort of sting operation. A high ranking league official showing bias against one team is not a problem the league wants to have, especially if they then choose to fine that same team without being able to show they did anything wrong.

It IS a struggle, Koma. That is because you ( I assume) are a lot like most of us. We're educated, basically decent human beings living in a society that we expect the best from on the highest levels of education, politics and business. What we get is nothing even approximate.

This latest, for lack of a better word, jingoistic jihad waged by NFL offices executives and underlings on the New England Patriots, Bob Kraft, Bill Belechick and by extension, ALL OF US who are Patriot fans is a stark reminder of the pettiness, jealousy and small mindedness one can find anywhere in any walk of life. When I was a kid I first heard "it's a dog eat dog world, sonny"....all these decades later all the dogs have been eaten and all that remains are the rats, gnawing inexorably at the carcass of what was once a great league, a great sport.

Unlike you, I actually believe that BB is a man of his word regarding an agreement in which he received compensation. However we will never know.

You tell me, what exactly is there to talk about at this point? We're running around in circles. I think we're all very familiar with each poster's position on the topic.

Are you chained here, or do you have the choice of ignoring this thread? seems you've chosen to post here.

With the pathetic 5th round pick in 2016 penalty against the Falcon for something that clearly benefited them and gave them an unfair advantage, and the fact that they were caught red handed and admitted as much, there is no way the NFL can even fine the Pats!

They have no evidence whatsoever, and it can be rationally explained by science.
