As I have said before I understand the cynicism and skepticism regarding the league office and those who inhabit it, however what makes this different than Spygate is the investigation by independent counsel. For Spygate it was cut and dried with Goodell acting as judge, jury, and executioner. Since then the league has gone to independent investigations for several different issue and in each case voluminous reports with all the facts and evidence have come out of it and they have been available to the teams and the public, and this case will be no different. Unlike the sanctions on the Falcons and Browns which were done by the league office with no findings published the end result of this investigation will be a report that is available that allow the Paris to defend themselves if they feel the need to. Goodell won't be able to whitewash it and will have to have the findings of the report to support any potential sanctions. If the report finds no evidence of any tampering by the Patriots then Goodell will have no choice but to exonerate the Patriots and move on to the more important business of giving the Patriots the jets first round pick.

I think they have nothing definitive on the Pats and so they will probably wait and deliver a bland report to the effect that the balls were underinflated and that while nobody knows why they were underinflated and while there is no evidence that the Patriots did anything to deflate them, still the balls indeed were underinflated, so the Patriots will be fined a nominal amount. They will also make some blah blah recommendations for the future for every team.

Since this isn't the outcome the League wanted, I would be willing to bet that it will be announced on Thursday or even Friday before the Easter/Passover weekend. If they had proof the Pats had done something really wrong, they would wait until next week to release it or they would have released it at the beginning of this week.

Just like the so-called independent investigation of the Rice fiasco wasn't a whitewash. Of course no one in the NFL office received the tape and Goodell didn't know what what happened in the elevator. Heck, I am still waiting for Goodell's promised investigation of who leaked the confidential Pats tapes from his office safe to Glazer at Mrs. Goodell's TV station.

The balls were approved by the referee and the Patriots are not allowed to monitor them or alter them after they are approved so there is no mechanism for them or any other team to keep them within game specs, therefore they cannot be held accountable for their state after the NFL takes responsibility for them.

We will see what happens. Your opinion is too logical for Goodell's NFL

enough of the balls talk...please and thank you :D

Why do people keep coming into this thread and posting this exact line of thought. We've thoroughly dissected its flaws and the battle lines between those who believe it and those who don't have been long drawn.

Because this is the internet and nobody bothers to read the other repetative responses! I get all my Patriots knowledge from this forum as I do not know who to believe in the media. But I have to sift through a lot of BS to satisfy my NEP knowedgeable information. I was lost yesterday!

Depends on one's version of "logical" and whether one is predisposed to think that life should be "fair:"

"The balls are in the Pats possession, therefore, if they are underinflated the Pats are responsible for their condition whether or not there is proof they tampered with them."
Or.
"The balls were approved by the NFL and, even though they were in the Pats possession, if there is no proof of tampering the Pats are not responsible if they are underinflated."

The second version (your version) would win out in a logical and fair universe. The first will probably win out in a Goodellian universe.

You conveniently omitted my second paragraph, which was the whole point of my post, viz., to speculate on the timing of an announcement and to suggest that the timing would be driven by the content.

I think Benz is a complete @sshole and have no patience at all for his Patriots are Cheaters bullsh.t. In his tiny little mind the Patriots should take the fine for no wrongdoing and be happy it wasn't worse.

The good thing is that Merloni and Fauria call him on it every time he goes into his rants

If the league decides to crucify the Patriots it will be released this Friday
And if they want to send a host of plagues on the Patriots or have the Angel of Death pass over the Patriots, it will be released after sundown Friday........

Does anyone here know why Reiss thinks there will be a fine? I submitted this question in his mailbag but it wasn't selected.

the is silence because if they present all the evidence, the pats would have to wind up with the colts and ravens 1st round picks......add to that the jets having to swap 1st rounders for tampering, they're looking at a draft that will have the patriots with the 6th, 26th, and 29th picks

then the Pats draft:
1a: OG - Brandon Scherff
1b: DT - Jordan Phillips
1c: CB - Marcus Peters
2: OG - Ali Marpet
3a: DT - Marcus Hardison
3b: RB - David Johnson
4a: CB: Doran Grant
4b: DE: Lynden Trail

Really give the haters something to complain about

its a nice fantasy....the depth of the team would be amazing

1. Because Goodell is an imbecile.
2. Because said imbecile has a God complex.
3. Because said imbecile with a God complex makes his decisions based only on what the hysterical media/angry mob think.

“Too often, competitive violations have gone unpunished because conclusive proof of the violation was lacking. I believe we should reconsider the standard of proof to be applied in such cases, and make it easier for a competitive violation to be established." And where a violation is shown, I intend to impose more stringent penalties on both the club and the responsible individual(s). I will also be prepared to make greater use of draft choice forfeiture in appropriate cases. I believe this will have the effect of deterring violations and making people more willing to report violations on a timely basis.”
