As I have said before I understand the cynicism and skepticism regarding the league office and those who inhabit it, however what makes this different than Spygate is the investigation by independent counsel. For Spygate it was cut and dried with Goodell acting as judge, jury, and executioner. Since then the league has gone to independent investigations for several different issue and in each case voluminous reports with all the facts and evidence have come out of it and they have been available to the teams and the public, and this case will be no different. Unlike the sanctions on the Falcons and Browns which were done by the league office with no findings published the end result of this investigation will be a report that is available that allow the Paris to defend themselves if they feel the need to. Goodell won't be able to whitewash it and will have to have the findings of the report to support any potential sanctions. If the report finds no evidence of any tampering by the Patriots then Goodell will have no choice but to exonerate the Patriots and move on to the more important business of giving the Patriots the jets first round pick.
