We've talked about a trade down if belichick doesn't find value at 2, or if he thinks that several of his players would be available in the 2nd half of the second round.

Consider these two trades where we end up with two seconds instead of our 1st and 3rd.

Trade 32 to BUFF for 50 and 81
Trade 81 and 96 to DAL for 60

OLD: 32 and 96
NEW: 50 and 60

We'd then have three picks in the 2nd: 50, 60 and 64.

We'd still have our intermediate picks at 97, 101 and 130, with opportunities for further trades. For example, I would expect Belichick to end up with a 5th somehow.

We'd still have our three late picks for flyers.

If Belicheck doesn't see value at 32, we have discussed a trade down.

EXAMPLE
Trade 32 to BUFF for 50 and 81
Trade 81 and 96 to DAL for 60

RESULT
50 and 60 instead of 32 and 96

I would think that we would have a good chance at find a couple of contributors with 50, 60 and 64. We'd still have our mid-level picks, which have always made the team: 97, 101 and 130.

Whatever the Patriots do, I expect to be scratching my head thinking "WTF? Who is that? Why did they do this?" Then I will be mildly disappointed in the draft until some point in the regular season where it becomes apparent what BB had in mind. The NFL draft is so over-hyped and over-anticipated it's not even funny.

Buff might go for that. It's congruent with what I've been guessing. 2nd round contract is better.
Obviously depends on who might slip within 32 or trade range, for example a CB or DL they feel is a their guy.

If they were to end up with three seconds like Eric Rowe, AJ Cann and Ameer Abdullah I think that's a better more value than they would get standing pat and picking the end of the first three rounds. The value in this draft IMO from 25-65 is pretty flat.

This sounds good if it happened. My only issue with it is that many teams will probably be looking to do the same thing, so the value of moving down may not be there.

I have to agree. With this draft, there are so few guys with first round grades that it becomes a game of who falls in love with who and when are they available.

I agree.

However, consider the alternative. Does anyone believe that no one has players with first round grades on the board when we pick at 32. That could happen, but I doubt it. I'm sure after 31 is picked, posters here will have the names of 6-8 players that they think have first round grades, including some we might want. To put in another way, if we used the top 20 mocks, we'd find lots of players that aren't picked when 31 is announced.

The question is what offers we will get. Obviously, if no acceptable deals are available, Belichick might end up picking the same player at 32 that he would have picked if he traded down 10 spots or so.

Trading down to #50 is a bit lower than I would want. The sweet spot for me is in the 35-45 range, where you have to imagine Ameer Abdullah, Shaq Thompson, Byron Jones, Nelson Agholor, Carl Davis, Maxx Williams and AJ Cann are likely to come off the board. If you can find me a trade that will ensure us just two of those guys, I'm there. Hoping that one of them will drop to #64 is asking a lot.

I agree 100%. If we could trade down from 32 and up from 64 and get two picks in your range, plus whatever we get at 97, I think we can walk away from this draft feeling good.

Ridiculous Thread.

I need at least 10 seconds to make a sound Decision.

Don't want to drop to 50. If we don't get our dt or cb at 32, there will prob be some very good OL available. Like a Cam Irving or Clemmings or Fisher. Wouldn't want to miss on them.

DRAFTEK has Peters (CB), Cann(OG), Fisher (OT), Phillips (DT) and OO (DE) available at 32.

My choice would be an offensive lineman unless Belichick is well-satisfied with Peters. However, I suspect that Belichick will be OK with trade down to 50.
