Yes in terms of numbers. I would not have paid it because of his history and the risk that comes with it but $25MM or so for an elite WR1 is worth it.
It is not just a matter of cap increasing, there has also been a shift in positional value. A portion that used to go to RBs now goes to WRs and...
While I agree with you that a top end LT or DE are more important, top WRs have shown they have a significant impact on team and QB performance.
$30MM may be a bit rich for an elite WR, it is not for a special 24 year old WR. I would rather pay that than $22MM for Ridley. Landing elite WRs in...
I agree with you and and I am a believer in Mayo but there were a few quotes he really should not have made as they had no upside and this is one of them.
In the last 23 years, there was few with real long term success. To me that is defined by winning division, going deep almost every year and winning at least 1 SB. All had really good or great QB play.
I am not saying QB is only reason but it is the most important ingredient by far.
Pats with...
It was more tongue in cheek. I agree if we don't love any of the QBs available at 3 and a team is offering you 3 firsts then take it.
However, I would rather take the best LT (assuming he is graded to be a true blue chip TL) in top 5 then get 3rd or 4th best LT and another 1st rounder.
Which is part of what's wrong with QB drafting. IMO the correct view is to force yourself to have high conviction for 1 or 2 guys. If you don't get 1 of the 2, get a development QB outside the first 2 rounds which will not back you into a corner of having to dedicate 3-4 years around them...
This is it for me. Brady always wanted to be coached even as a Buc. It was clearly something that changed in how Bill treated him.
I remember being speechless at the way Bill talked about Cam. I never heard Bill talk that way about Tom once in 20 years.
Another thing about those teams is none of them sustained any sort of success. You just can't have a good team for 10 years without a really good QB. Hence the musical chairs at QB and HC every year.
That's definitely the approach I would take in their place. Talk up some dude you don't want in the hope he gets selected ahead of you and avoid talking about the one you want.
It's because we have been conditioned for it over 20 years. Of course everybody likes to just ignore that a QB was never a need which was why it worked.
If you don't have a good QB in the NFL, you can't win. You may pull it off for a year or two if you hit on a lot of picks but it is never...
I can't take seriously any opinion that says there are 5-6 potential starting QBs in a single draft. There will be 1 at best. Once in a blue moon you will have 2. Once a generation or so you get 3.
@DW Toys consistently has the most entertaining OPs!
I dont think there is a dumb enough FO that would pick JJ in top 10. He is a backup in the NFL at best.
