I was not happy at all. Not the hiring of Belichick part, but the giving up the #1 draft pick for him. I wanted them to hire Jim Haslett as HC, and Tom Donohue as GM. That pair later went to Buffalo and I don't think either is in the league anymore, although Haslett was in the XFL last year.
I think we're over complicating this. The Patriots gave Smith $27 million over his first two seasons. If they keep him, it will be $37 million over three. Is he worth giving him $10 million. I'd say no.
As far as the restructure goes, as I recall they didn't give him any more money, any more...
According to Joel Corry, Jonnu Smith's salary guarantees are only for injury until March 17.
Agent's Take: 2023 NFL offseason dates to know for free agency, contract options, franchise tags
The Patriots so far have given him $27 million for two seasons (only about $13 million has hit the cap...
Interesting thing.....for all the talk about DeShaun Watson needing to be suspended for more than a season, what he did doesn't even come close to what Azaria is accused of.
Here it is:

It was revised early Sunday morning. Uche is now on it. Sam Roberts has dropped off. Must have been an oversight
Here is Reiss' latest 53 roster...He's usually plugged in...BIggest shocker is Uche is not on it, Trade or oversight. (McMillan would return after Thornton goes on IR)
QB (3) B.Zappe, B.Hoyer, M.Jones
RB (5) D.Harris, R.Stevenson, J.Taylor, K.Harris, P.Strong
WR (6) J.Meyers, D.Parker...
It's the structure of his contract that is killer. All $10 million of 2022 salary is guaranteed. Might as well keep him. Nobody is taking that contract and no benefit in releasing him.
It just goes to show you how much they really didn't believe the science. Announcing they were going to check the pressures meant the NFL didn't believe the Ideal Gas Law was real. And, don't forget the Patriots were docked a 3rd round pick -- more than the Giants were docked for talking to...
I think it's AFTER tomorrow that Harry can go on IR. Must be on the roster of September 1 at 4 p.m. to be able to return. Hoyer will be back on Thursday.
One more thought....Bob Kravitz is not admitting what he wrote was wrong on deflategate, but now he has a "glimmer of doubt".
Let's put that in another example and see what that means......
"When I first got married, I thought my wife and I would be together forever. But now, I have a glimmer...
The timing made no sense. After the October 16 game against the Jets, MacNally says Brady was mad because he felt like he was throwing rocks....and MacNally measured the balls and they were at 16 psi. So, if any deflation occurred (and not saying it did), it would have started after that...
I agree.
Home teams in the NFL win 57% of the time. That's the largest home advantage of any sport except the NBA. If you ask someone why that is, they would probably say crowd noise. So, it would seem that piping in crowd noise would be FAR worse than anything the Patriots did. And, if...
Wells is an advocate. He was hired by the NFL to find Brady guilty and he did. If the NFL wanted him to investigate and follow wherever the evidence took him, I think we'd have seen an entirely different result
I was listening to Gresh on CBS radio yesterday. He was talking about deflategate. Most of the callers were extremely ignorant. Then he got to Hugh from Seattle. It was Hugh Millen, former QB for several teams including the Patriots. He’s on the radio here in a Seattle where I live and he’s...
Who could spill the beans on this? Before being hired by the NFL, Troy Vincent tried to become head of the NFLPA. If somehow he switched sides during these negotiations, he could leak everything as a means to get discipline power away from Goodell. Probably, a pipe dream.
The Chargers have the sixth pick in the draft. They are likely taking a quarterback. If Brady goes there, he's looking at a one year situation and then back in the same place he is now.
Interesting....Ben Volin suggested today that Patriots could trade Caserio to Houston in February. What? After he knows all of the Patriots draft rankings and free agency plans, but before the draft or free agency? Did that not strike him as nuts?
Ken brought us re-watching lots of stuff over the past two weeks. I watched the the end of this Super Bowl and the Falcons one. One thing that struck me -- Brady, Kraft and Belichick all talked at the end.....And, though not word for word, they said almost exactly the same things both times...
