WTF? Patriots.com poll regarding TO!

I'm going back and forth on this.

I am willing to bet that the Pats have entertained the idea of TO in a Pats uni. I'm sure BB reached out to Tuna, Reid, Mooch, et. al and sought some insight into what might be the root-cause for his disruptive, sometimes illogical behavior. As stated before by other posters, the Pats have done pretty well with malcontents (except for Doug Gabriel and years 2 and 3 of Dillon), but consider this point. BB actually has a pretty solid relationship with Drew Rosenhaus. BB has said before that he has enjoyed his past dealings with him b/c he does his homework and analysis with regard to the players and respects the history of the game. Those two may be able to have a decent conversation and have Drew convey to TO that the Pats would be a good move for him. Certainly the Pats would ask for TO to agree to an incentive-laden, low-risk deal for the idea to be considered.

But in the end, I believe it would be TO who would not agree to come here simply because his ego, thirst for attention and overall requirement to be coddled and loved would not be satisfied with the Pats. I think TO has passion for the game, has obviously been productive and can help any team's passing offense if he plays hard, but in the end I don't think it's realistic to think he would want to play here unless the other 31 teams show no desire for his services.

People were saying the same thing when he went to Dallas. Even Parcells couldnt deal with him............I DO NOT WANT T.O. IN N.E...........

I think Parcells could have kept him "somewhat" in check. However, he had a field day with that joke of a coach Wade Phillips and his wus QB Romo.

He thinks he's bigger than the game. He's about to find out the harsh reality of that thinking.

What would we pay him with?

I guess anything is possible, and if Belichick wanted to have a go of it, ok by me.

I see T.O., though, as completely different from Moss or Dillon. Moss is, I believe, very widely misunderstood and, deep down, shares way more of the same sensibilities as Belichick and Brady than people have ever understood -- even today. Dillon was a pissed off malcontent, but with reason, and he needed a winning environment. T.O. has been a problem even when he's played in a winning environment, and his worst problems were on the sidelines where coaches are too busy to control things.

In descending order of probability he will go to:

1. OAK
2. IND
3. Every pro, NCAA, and high school football in America and elsewhere.
4. NE

Actually I'm just kidding. It wouldn't shock me, actually. It really depends on what TO wants at this point in his career...I could see the Pats putting out feelers, but I don't think this will happen. TO, at his heart, likes being the center of attention and I think he'd recognize he couldn't be that here. If he really is thirsty to play with a great QB he'll go to the Colts or the Pats, but my guess is at the end of the day Oakland will offer him too much money and he'll fade away his disappointing career in silver and black.

I don't know why a team would publicly say they don't want him. For one thing it gives TO and his teammates bulletin board material for additional incentive if/when the two teams play each other. Second, the less teams interested him, the less he will be offered in a contract. It is in the Patriot's (and any other team's) best interest that whoever signs him pays top dollar for Owens; that team then has that much less available to spend under the salary cap.

Aside from the cancer that he is, Owens is not going to become a Patriot. With the available cap money, the Pats are probably looking for a receiver to replace Gaffney that will count about $1-$1.5 million against the cap this year; there's no way Rosenhaus and Owens are going to sign for that kind of money.

Only way I want him on the Patriots if I'm playing Madden.. NO FREAKING WAY DO I WANT HIM on our team

two other things.

one, frankly, owens has been right about what he's whined about in previous teams. he was classless about how he went about airing his feelings, but honestly....Jeff Garcia sucked, Donovan McNabb didn't manage the offense well in 4Q of that SB, and Tony Romo looked for Jason Whitten way too much. he wouldn't have anything to complain about here, he'd probably work out quite well.

but two...and this is important

he dropped a lot of passes the past few years in Dallas. big ones. Randy did last year a little bit too, but still. I'm not sure he's worth more than 2 mil a year, on a conditional contract, and you think he'd be cool with being on a team where the other guy is making 7?

no i don't see this happening. he'll go to Oakland or (hopefully not), Indy.

Yeah, I'll take him. But only if the Pats hire Willie McGinnest to shadow him everywhere and he's armed with a baseball bat!:D:singing:

The more I think, The more I think this could work for one MAIN REASON! Do you agree with me on this:

T.O CANT yell to Brady. I just can't imagine him yelling at him like the other quarterbacks. Brady would be like, "your yelling at me? TOM FKIN BRADY!"

I think T.O would RESPECT Brady unlike the other quarterbacks.

( there once was a troubled guy that mooned people named Randy Moss)

No way it could happen unless Brady and Moss signed off on it. You need those guys on board or you could ruin the team.

However, if those guys were for it, it could work for one year as long as Owens agreed to a contract structured to make it painless to get rid of him.

Personally I would love to see every team in the NFL ban together on this and nobody sign him. Not even if he asked to play for free.

Sick of TO.

I agree and I think it's quite possible that both Brady and Moss would be all for it.

I mean TO aint gonna yeall and scream @ Brady. That's just not gonna happen.

And, TO is one of the few WR's in this league who, if playing opposite Moss, might actually justify having a double team tossed his way. It might make for the only way Moss would ever see single coverage while in a Pats uni. My guess is Moss would be all for this possibility.

Not that it matters anyhow because I think TO will have several teams lining up to show him more money than the Pats ever would.

owww, this is such a nonissue...

sure, if we wernte struggling agaisnt the cap atm, and we needed a wr, but considerin we already have one high priced wide out, and we need upgrade defense, and were having problems w/ cap....i mean really?

I didn't forget, I just couldn't fit him in my 3-wide 2-rb set, hehe.

Time for the Pats to bring back the wishbone. Hell, Flutie did a drop kick.

Sick of TO.

MLB did just that with Barry Bonds.

Which I personally find lame, for a league that embraces A-Roid.

Agree 100%. Along with what I stated earlier, Krafty Bob, TB, Moss and other core members of the team must go along with it. However, with TB making a comeback from a major injury and the absence of a true OC running the offense, taking on TO may be a bit too much to handle at once.

The only reason I would want the Pats to sign TO would be to cut his arse on the first day of training camp. I have no desire to have this guy on the Patriots. I wasn't in favor of Moss either, but I was never adamently opposed to Moss like I am with TO.

Everywhere TO has gone, he has put himself above the team and HAPPILY undermines his QBs and head coaches just to bask in the spotlight. Moss quit on a team where everyone quit before him. TO is willing to destroy a team for his own selfish needs and personal amusement no matter what the team chemistry is made of.

Again, the only way I could enjoy TO on the Pats is if they signed him to no guarantees and he showed up to training camp the first day in his Lance Armstrong outfit and Belichick fired his arse in front of a crowd of fans and reporters. I think I may enjoy that more than him scoring 30 TDs in a Patriots' uniform. Ok, I would happily take the 30 TDs, but I wouldn't enjoy them.

I will never be a huge Moss fan, but I respect the guy for what he has done here. I can't stand TO and could never respect the guy because he dishonors himself and the game of football with his childish behavior.

I could never understand the hypocrisy of the Cowboys fans who quickly forgot about him desecrating the Cowboys star making him one of the most hated players in the Dallas area the second he signed to be a Cowboy. Unfortunately for him, he continued to take a dump on the organization for years.

We've done this before. give him a heavily incentive laden deal. He gets a shot at a ring with possibly the most devastating offense ever. If he goes "TO", he'll go the way of Terry Glenn.

Our "Check your ego at the door" philosiphy has been a main contributor to our success this decade.

The wikipedia on TO is comical. His talent is undeniable, but he is an absolute nut. Check these out. One thing is for sure, he does have interests outside of football.

Owens is depicted in a photographic work by contemporary African-American artist Hank Willis Thomas entitled Liberation of T.O.: Ain't no way I'm go'n in back ta'work fa'massa in dat darn field (2004). The work was featured in "Frequency", the Studio Museum in Harlem's 2006 exhibition of emerging artists.[36]

In 2006, Owens wrote Little T Learns to Share, a children's' book which encourages children to share.

He will star in a summer 2009 reality show on Vh1; the show will follow Owens and his "best friends and publicists" as they re-evaluate Owens' personal life.[42]
