Butler visiting Saints

There isn't a snowballs chance in hell the Aints give up #11 for Malcolm.

If he does eventually go to NO BB and Payton will work out other terms.

I think Reiss thinks so too.

Saints aren't giving up the no 11 and a huge contract. I also don't think its a slam dunk that NO gives up 32.

I would rather have the 2nd and 3rd round picks than the 1st anyway. Gives us more flexibility to move around. NO have the number 42 pick.

who said we could get a 1st? No team is going to sign Butler and give up a 1st..that leaves a trade and so far we have rumors of a 2nd and a 3rd from the Saints and a 2nd from the Titans.
err..then we could..you know..just keep one of the best cb duos in the league for at least another year?

Am I the only one who likes Trader Bill better than overdraft a Safety in the second round Bill??:D

Then if no team will sign Butler and give up a 1st, I assume the Pats would be happy having him play next year for $4 MM

That would be a big win for whoever signs butler. If that's the case than i rather the browns get in play.

BTW, my perfect deal would be nothing this year but the Saints' #1 next year.

I think Reiss thinks so too.

So why would Bill accept pick #32 when he's entitled to pick #11? Don't know what the trade chart says but maybe 32 + 42 + 2018 2nd may equal pick 11

I think it is allowed until April 21st ( deadline for RFA to sign tender) because technically he is not under contract . While they tendered him at first round level, he is allowed to get an offer sheet by negotiating with other teams until that deadline.. I think......

EDIT Or did you mean the Pats offering a contract?? I think it is allowed but he doesn't have ot sign it, he could just sign the tender and be an UFA next year.
Imagine if it dragged out that long. This thread would reach 200+ pages and between this and Jimmy G everyone's head would explode. I won't even mention H'tower.

That's if they sign him. There has nothing stopping them from agreeing to tentative terms that are contingent on a trade. IMO, this is likely the approach NO would take.

This is absolutely true.

The point is, now, the starting point would be the 11th pick, and that's just assuming the Patriots don't match whatever the offer is.

Simply sending back #32 doesn't get it done.

Million Dollar Man Tom Kiley should have had Butler sign his tender. There are lots of eventualities for Butler, but they are getting less and less lucrative, and less and less beneficial for every second the Super Agent drags this on.

It could all still work out for him, but being traded 1 for 1 for Cooks, and signing a fat contract with the Saints, is looking like it was best-case scenario.

Saints are in a really tough spot. Sure, they could try to work out a trade, but if it all comes down to an offer sheet - do you offer a top-of-the-market UFA-type contract? Or do you offer something like 4/40? And if they do offer 4/40, who's to say the Patriots won't match that?

The weird part is the inclusion to us in the Cooks deal of the #4 which we lose. Between the two teams, we lost value there (by having a higher pick taken away) and if Reiss is right it's now untradable. They didn't have to include a #4, there has to be something going on with that but I have no idea what.

You're missing the point that acquiring the NO pick (#118 overall) gave NE back the #132 overall pick. So even though the #118 got stolen, trading for the pick nevertheless got NE something they did not have before.

Before the trade: NE has #32, #96, and no picks at all in the 4th round.
After the trade: NE has Cooks and the #132.

The trade, as experienced by NE, was the #32 & #96 for Cooks and the #132.
The trade, as experienced by NO, as Cooks and the #118 for the #32 & #96.

Basically, the bogus DFG penalty transmuted the #118 into the #132 as it went to NE.

Then if no team will sign Butler and give up a 1st, I assume the Pats would be happy having him play next year for $4 MM
that's not how it's sounding..looking like they are trading him

If the Saints are willing to give up a first, there's no chance the Patriots do this, especially to a team they've faced in the playoffs the last couple of years.
