Denver Broncos OL John Moffitt quits over fears of brain injury

Smart guy. $$ and fame isn't always everything especially when your brain is mush when you are 50.

Ok money doesn't buy happiness. Só give me yours and be happy.

Moffitt's departure had convenient timing as the Broncos activated center J.D. Walton from the physically unable to perform list to their 53-man roster by the 2 p.m. Tuesday deadline.

Moffitt told the team he was retiring from football, but a source close to him said the third-year NFL lineman from the University of Wisconsin is doing some soul searching amid frustration at his lack of playing time.

Moffitt, 27, had started 15 games at guard for the Seattle Seahawks in 2011-12. He was inactive in six of eight games since the Broncos acquired him from Seattle in a late August trade for defensive tackle Sealver Siliga.

For John Moffitt, that lovin' feeling is gone - as is the offensive lineman - The Denver Post

Not downplaying the risk of brain injury, but it seems that was his third reason after lack of playing time and the prospect of being cut in favor of the guy from the PUP list.

Maybe he was bullied.

(What? Too soon?)

If he hangs around for a couple more months he gets the rest of his paycheck for the year however much that is. Seemed silly to walk away now. Could even end up in the sb.

Moffitt, in terms of his attitude, was like Matt Light. Football wasn't #1. Always had other things going on. He's a Conn. buy from my high school.

It's not bullying. There is a different culture in the NFL.

You need to wait for all the details to come out before you can have an opinion.

PS. Sounds like John Moffitt is soft

PSS. whatever happened to the theory that the actions of Incognito would make Riley Cooper look like Abe Lincoln? All we know is he said the N word (which is admittedly bad) however ever black teammate has his back.

My ex brother in law played for the Bills and quit. Regretted it for the rest of his life as he never had a decent job afterwards despite (or because of?) a degree from BC.

Moffitt was one of the most popular Seahawks his first 2 years. Sherman and Mike Robinson loved him. Guy was a party animal. If you saw the locker room film you'd see that Moffitt simply was a free thinker who liked to party. Very much like Light.

I have to wonder how a conversation between John Moffitt and Austin Collie would go.. :D

What's the point of money if you can't remember what you spent it on? I think Moffitt is making the right decision.

I don't know. Smerlas has done OK for himself. :)

Says something when a player says that he will play and hopefully get paid enough so that his son doesn't have to in NFL.

You gotta give the guy credit for having his priorities straight

For the Broncos they may have caught a break as rumors are the Dolphins may be willing to part ways with one or two members of their OL

Heck - the Broncos could probably land them both - which should be great since they already have experience playing together!
