The 2015 NFL Combine Thread

The throwing QBs are absolutely awful too. How can you play QB in college and have such a hard time throwing a short out route?
You hand it off or run with it yourself - Todays college QBs in a nutshell.

Just finished catching up with the last 8 pages of the thread. Awesome reading.

Also wanted to add that after watching Jameis Winston's PC yesterday, whichever team drafts him
will be buying Fool's Gold.

That's a reasonable thought Mayo. But I've found it a waste of time and effort to discuss a lot of guys for a long time who are NEVER going to be Patriots.

The only reason to discuss them would be to be able to compare them to players the Pats might actually need or be in a position to draft.. It drives me nuts to see 90% of the mediot's time at the combine be spent on guys who are going to be drafted in the top 15-20 slots, or spent on the "glamor" positions like QB and WR, which the Pats won't picking (IMHO)

I LOVE the OL and DL talk. I can't get enough info on them. I can even stand a little TE and RB talk, but Most of it frustrates me because its just not relevant. Granted I'm probably being very parochial. True Draftnicks like you love it all and I should probably be more tolerant. Please forgive my crankiness.

The Combine has an influence on the draft. It shouldn't have much, to be honest. Film evaluation is so much more important. As BB notes, being able to interview prospects and get medical information is valuable. The drills have some limited value in terms of "checking off" adequate athleticism, but they are generally meaningless. But the media hypes them up, and some NFL personnel invariably get caught up in them. Al Davis drafting Darius Hayward-Bey at #7 overall in 2009. There are lots of other examples.

I love the Combine because it inevitably shakes up people's boards and causes them to forget the film. That creates opportunities for smart teams. So I'm very happy to see these guys get over-hyped.

Justin Hardy bossed the gauntlet twice. Very good hands there.

"Fool's Gold". What a great term. Perfect. There's so much of it at the Combine, and in the draft, with tons of false advertising. Like this:

Mariucci says that Jameis is the smartest QB he's ever met with. Mayock says that's exactly what he's been hearing too.

Fool's Gold, indeed.

Rashad Greene looks great

Devin Funchess looking good in the gauntlet. I hope we trade up for him in the first round.

Justin Hardy, Rashad Greene and Nelson Agholor all look like guys who could fit for the Pats. All will likely go 3rd round and I would prefer not to go WR that high, but it doesn't hurt to get a sense.

There is always a role in the Pats' offense for WRs who can (1) run routes, (2) have the short term quickness and agility to get separation, and (3) catch the ball.

More seriously, Nelson Agholor has the joint best 10 yard split of the first group and excelled in the gauntlet. I've really liked he USC receivers the last couple of years. Agholor might be the best.

USC is becoming the school for reliable, if unspectacular receivers. Do you see a lot of former USC Woods in him?

@Hawkeyes247: Marcus Mariota's vertical jump was 36''. Jameis Winston's was 28 1/2''. #NFLCombine

I've not watched a bunch of Agholor tape so I'll not make that comp yet. I really liked Robert Woods though.

38" vertical for McBride. Jaelen Strong had a 42". Darren Waller had an excellent vert and broad.

40.5" VJ for Ty Montgomery.
37" for Darren Waller.
36.5" for Kevin White.
36" for Tony Lippett.
