Anyone got a pic of Seymour being held on the almost Eli sack in 4th?

Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

The Refs did not call the blatant Holding on Seymour and Thomas on Manning's pass.

Sorry but BAD no call.

The game hinged on that and the referees no call basically breathed new life into the Giants.

This lack of a call was at least as bad as the phantom roughing the passer against Ray Hamilton in 1976 against the Raiders.

Every one is tip toeing around this. PC opinion is that the Giants deserved to win

did they????

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

As much as I'd like to believe this, it's not true. We scored 14pts. Our Patriots offense. Brady, Moss, Welker, Stallworth, Watson, Maroney, and the gang scored 14pts. You know what really lost us the game? Not scoring more points!

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

Apparently, if a team plays you close for the first 58 minutes, they are given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to bad calls, being as “we should have never been in such a close position”.

We were winning at that point of the game, I don't care about 4th and 13, Asante's drop, etc. Fact was, we were winning, and the refs allowed to the Giants to illegally progress on the game winning drive. So no, I do not think they deserved to win in any sense of the word.

Just because they played us close and we made some miscues previous to the play, does not justify a non-call whatsoever. So yes, I agree.

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

Again if's and butts

The refs did not cause the loss, the pats and the giants defense caused this loss...

Oh COME on...are you seriously going to whine about this? The Giant defensive line was being held ALL NIGHT by the would be offensive line of the Pats. It was comical. Oh but those calls don't matter. Pure sour grapes

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

uh....nobody said it?

there's, like, 3 threads and a website dedicated to it.

you guys really need to let that game rest in peace.

I'm not whining, I just agree with the poster. Had the right call been made, they don't win the game. (Or at least very unlikely)

When the biggest play in Super Bowl history was able to progress due to a miscall and the team on the other side of it is my team, I'm going to be angry.

Maybe we'll do that when the rest of the country lets go of the tuck rule.

Heh....first off it was NOT a blatant hold...Second if that was New England you would not even be ENTERTAINING the thought of a hold there. All we'd be hearing would be how great a play it was and how only warriors like Brady can get it done. Well guess what..that was a great play and it wasn't Brady. If this isn't sour grapes then i don't know what is. In 2002 the Giants were trying to kick a field goal, couldn't get it off and tried a long pass to the end zone. The receiver down there was MAULED and no call. You know what though, nobody complained because the Giants deserved to lose. To ***** about a hold in that spot is just ridiculous. The Giants made the plays to win the game and your team didn't. Let it rest and come back strong next year..geez

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

i dont blame this one on the refs, I blame it on the lack of blocking and the inability to make the adjustments needed to counter the giants pass rush.

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

Refs won't call anything in the last 5 minutes of a Superbowl unless it is utterly blatant pass interference, movement or offsides. They don't want to go down as "deciding the game" with a call.

If you don't believe me, go back & look at the holding the Pats O-line did on about 3 out of the last 4 plays of the game. The players know it's not likely to be called at that point.

The Pat line held all night. If they hadn't Brady would have been carried out of there.

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

We're Patriots fans. We don't make excuses.

That's what other team's fans do.

The Refs always make bad calls. It's up to the players to make sure that's not the difference in the game.

You posted this more than once and it is not exactly true...

The play in question was shown on sports center a few times but as someone else posted the refs let things go the last five minute.

Re: Why will no one say it? Patriots lost the game because

The Patriots didn't lose the game because of the non-call, but it was a huge part of the Giants winning the game.

I have said this in atleast one other thread, but I'll repeat my opinion here. The refs don't want to "decide the game" by throwing a flag in the last few minutes of a big game, but sometimes not throwing the flag also "decides the game". There was atleast one post in this thread that said the holding on that play wasn't blatant, and I couldn't disagree more. If you look at the play AFTER Eli shakes free, you can see two clear holds that prevented sacks.

I dwell on that play, but I also dwell on many other things THE PATS did poorly in this game. The Patriots played their worst game of the season in the biggest game of the season. It was the Patriots poor play through a majority of the game that allowed the Giants to be in position to make a fluke play to win the game.

I personally can't blame the referees for a game in which the Patriots played so poorly. I also can't be angry at the players or coaches for having a terrible day after months of taking every teams best shot....and coming up victorious.

I just feel incredibly sad that they didn't close the deal, that they didn't get what they deserved. This team deserved to go down as one of (if not THE) best teams ever, but they didn't resemble the team that deserved those accolades on Sunday.

If the team that took the field for the first 18 weeks showed up in week 19, there's no way any officials call could have changed the inevitable outcome of the game.

You don't call getting your head yanked by the facemask blatant? Get a clue!

Look at that picture again.

You can see every part of his facemask; no part is obscured by fingers or a hand. His hand is UNDER the facemask, on the jersey, not grabbing it.
