I found it pretty interesting that of the 9 OL taken in the 1st round of the 2022 draft, only 3 of them had their options renewed. And 2 of those renewed were questionable. Ekwonu is considered underwhelming and the Panthers were thinking of not renewing, but they didn't land another tackle in the draft, so belatedly they renewed him. Charles Cross was also a surprise renew. He ranked 32 out of 32 starting tackles. A bunch of others, like Neal and Penning, etc., just busted.

As for the guards and centers, even some of the guys who have looked really good, like Zion Johnson and Tyler Linderbaum, were NOT renewed. It shows that teams will NOT spend money on these positions.

I realize that the Patriots needed to spend money somewhere last year, but the Onwenu contract looks like a huge outlier at this point.

Consider that this draft was considered the strongest OL draft in many years, and at the end of the day, you can really only say that the Cowboys with Tyler Smith, the second to last OL picked in the 1st, worked out the way teams want these picks to work out.
