Re: Koc released!

I would, I have already, and I am again.

Now we can add him to the '08 junk pile that is Lil' Bo Not a Peep Ruud, and will eventually incl. fragile lil' Terry Wheatley & Chicken Legs Crable.

I do have one question: Why now? What's the effin rush? Why not wait until final cut-downs, just in case someone else's backup QB is injured next week, and a poss. trade can be made? It's not like we need the roster spot, or the meager cap savings.

OK, make that 3 questions.

Nice post. By next week Crable could be gone too.
Why now? What about the obvious: they reached a final decision. It is in both the team's interest (move on) and the player's interest (hook on elsewhere) to release him.

Re: Koc released!

Hopefully, this is not about Brady and more about KOC smiling after he threw the pics.

I am hoping the same - he didn't look very professional during the game or on the sidelines!!

Wow! That was a shocker. I'd figured they would give him a year or two more to develop. I guess not. The difference between O'Connell and Cassel is that Cassel struggled last year vs. the ones with a makeshift o-line. O'Connell struggled against the twos and threes.

Re: Koc released!

Yes, it is. I thought he looked absolutely terrible, but I'm shocked they didn't give him another year. I wonder if there is something behind the scenes (attitude or off-field) in addition to his performance. BB was more patient with Cassel and Gutierrez, so I wonder if KOC had some specific issue that made the team lose patience and give up on him early.

I'm shocked.
Mayo, Did we niot scoop this couple days ago about a Feeley possibility?

Maybe there are just alot of players (talents) that the Pats would rather not release.

i know people are using the "BB doesn't care about where you were drafted" but that doesnt change the fact that usually around the league you give a qb who is drafted in top 3 rounds a couple of years to develop and its a suprise that after 1 year that he was dropped. But in saying that when i was hearing the training camp reports i wasn't hearing to much about him developing.

I don't know, it seems to me that when it comes to QB's, they either got it or they don't. The good ones usually show you something that indicates they have promise by the end of their first and especially their second year. The "busts" don't. Both Brady and Cassel left positive impressions early on. I don't recall ever hearing anything positive about KOC. I was hoping that there were positive things taking place beyond the view of us fans but apparently not. If the guy isn't panning out, then I credit the teams that are willing to cut their losses and move on.

Re: Koc released!

With this year's schedule, we aren't winning the super bowl without Tommy, I hope we don't go throwing draft picks around for some #2 QB. If Tommy gets hurt we just do our best with Walter for the year.

The Eagles need a TE. Ben Watson (last year of contract anyway) for Feeley anybody?

Yup, just like there are times you have to draft the BPA, there are times you have to cut the WPA.

Personally, I would never make that trade. I mean Walter's probably comparable to Feeley and we got him for nothing save money. Why give up a good but not great player for the same?

Re: Koc released!

Is this the huge surprise that I'm thinking it is? 3rd Round pick and dumped the next year

Probably the most epic draft failure of BB's era.

Re: Koc released!

Garcia is on a 1 yr $1 million contract.....

Ready for the shocker possibility?
Did any of you know this? The UFL has announced they will allow present players under contract to take an NFL roster spot if signed by said NFL team at any point. J.P. Lossman is better than Walter in my opinion and has some scrambling ability. He is playing in the UFL for less than $100k.
Toughts? McGowan? "Child please!".

Re: Koc released!

Bethel Johnson, Chad Jackson

Third round pick is no big deal for a quarterback. Had he been a star, it would have been the second best pick ever. (exaggeration without checking).

Teams waste high number 1's every year at the position, that's just the way it goes.

Re: Koc released!

Heck, for that matter, why cut ANYONE today? IIRC, the Patriots aren't even at 80 players, and they don't have to be at 75 until Tuesday.

......argh....let me think.....because it gives koc a chance to hook-up with Scott Pioli in KC,since Cassell might be injured?Or with any team before final cuts?

Despite the Darth Vader rep,BB is not beyond doing right by players and coaches that he likes or respects.

Sorry if this was already discussed (I didn't read all 16 pages of this thread) but according to Miguel's Cap page, we just lost almost $400K in cap space by releasing O'Connel. I hope I read that right.

Yeah, it shows that there was some major deficiency with KOC. I guess we can pronounce that phonetically now that he's no longer a Patriot.

Re: Koc released!

per rotoworld
2/25/2007: Signed a three-year, $7.2 million contract extension through 2010. The deal included a $2 million signing bonus. 2009: $1.3 million, 2010: $1.8 million, 2011: Free Agent

If they do trade for Feeley, it's puts a lot of pressure on Hoyer in the girlfriend/fiancee/wife department to keep up..Brady's got Giselle, Feeley is engaged to Heather Mitts......

Excellent getting figures on Feeley's contract.....Even MORE excellent, getting the lowdown on Heather Mitts!......Kudos!

This is the BEST news I've heard today!!!!

If Brady's injury were the least bit of a concern there's no way they'd cut a QB who knows the system.
