DRAFT Christian Gonzalez

I don't listen to Boston sports radio, or any sports radio. Or any radio at all.

If you had read the second part of my post, you would have seen that I am calling ******** on the nitpicking of whether Gonzalez is a good enough tackler. In other words, I loved the pick. Listening to a bunch of Massholes with no lives calling a radio show complaining about the pick sounds horribly boring. "Ummm, ahhhh, I don't like the pick, Felgah. He's a, errr, ahhhhh, backup not a stahtah. Shouldah gut a wide receivah. Ahhhhh, ummm."

I do enjoy chaos and discomfort though. When the pom-poms and the realists (or is it the real fans and the negative Nancies?) get agitated, I get entertained. And I probably lean toward being a pom-pom. Belichick is my all time favorite person in all of sports. But when people attack him, I just find it fun.

Yeah, it's not callers setting the tone as much as the hosts. For me it's a real double-edged sword because I listen while working to hopefully glean nuggets of info from amidst the chaff. You deserve credit for avoiding it.

is he Gilmore? That’s who we want right?

Speak of the devil...and he shall appear lmao. I do not consider myself an expert at all but I challenge you to show me a single piece of evidence that suggests Gonzalez can deliver tone-setting tackling nor any semblance of an attempt to deliver one. Press is a state of mind, not a body type. The boy has the body type to do it but as Bill Parcells famously said, "You can't teach a puppy that doesn't bite how to bite as a dog."
Parcells meant to say that he couldn't teach that.

The Pats have a knack for finding DBs late or undrafted.

I just do not see RB and Defense as # 1 problem areas. Plus, a strong offense can keep your defense off the field.

It seems like BB loves to hear praise about a player that he drafted from the bargain basement.
Defense wins championships.

We got a CB with a sky high ceiling, but there is a concern he may or may not be a tackling machine?

I love when a good negative storm riles up the pompoms here. But this is really a stretch.
They got what some claim is the best CB in the draft, added a 4th round pick and stiffed the Jets. That's like killing three birds with one stone.

Gonzalez is a more disciplined Aqib Talib/ or Patrick Surtain Jr type.
Pretty astute comment. Disciplined is a great word for him. He doesn't bite on fakes, he stays within himself, but he can because he has incredible athletic gifts. He waits patiently for the decisive move and then he reacts. Because he can. Very few CBs have the luxury that he does.

Defense wins championships.
QBs win championships. The old axioms are truer now than ever.

A Great QB can nullify great defenses. Great pitching negates great hitting.

Opposing teams discovered that if you wore the Pats defense down that the game could be won in 4th quarter.

In baseball pitching is defense, not offense.
In football great defenses can beat great QB's.
All defenses that are worn down struggle. That's nothing new for the Pats or anyone else.

Why?

I don't know if you listen to Boston sports talk radio, but both 98.5 and WEEI crapped all over the Gonzalez pick this afternoon so you would have loved that. Between local sports media and the way this place is becoming, feeling positive or hopeful is something to be ashamed of.

Yeah, but Adam Jones is an idiot. So it doesn’t count.

It is a shame what they have done to that time slot. I have actually stopped listening to the station all together. Who in their right mind thought Adam Jones was the right guy to put on drive time?

who? a Philly sports conglomerate with built in hatred for all New Englanders...AUDACY..corporate headquarters? Philadelphia. THEY put this shytbag on EEI in primetime to SHYT ON US!!! Adam "Jones" is a bigger douchebag than Felcher

It's beyond weird that some analysts are holding the Pac-12 against Gonzalez.

Have these people never heard of Richard Sherman, Troy Polamalu, Jordan Poyer, Trent McDuffie, Patrick Chung, etc.? This is just in the last 20 years. I don't need to bring up Ronnie Lott etc. Obviously the Patriots don't shy away from Pac12 QBs as we took Jack Jones just last year.

i loved Gonzalez before the draft, and love him even more after we got him (at 17, no less)

Consensus reaction everywhere you look is that people were stunned he was still available at 17

The more film i watch on him, the more in love i get.. He looks the way you want your CB to look, which is tall, lengthy, smooth and fluid hips, etc

He has all of that in spades... and he appears to have a very high football IQ, some of the subtle stuff he has in his game shows you that he's cerebral and on a different level than most other college players on the field. He has unbelievable body control and just blankets WRs all the way down the field. He's able to bat very catchable balls from great passes with his long ass arms, and he has sub 4.40 speed to stay glued to anyone

This guy is going to be special

I laughed at this one comment from a youtube highlight, was too great not to share

Can I just say that between Gonzalez and Barmore, I am a little concerned about the wall between church and football. Plus I guess it was nice of them to get a guy named JuJu to make up for them both...

I kid because I love

Two-four years? Your nonsense will be forgotten 30 seconds from now.
None of us know if he'll be good or not. He's supposed to be, but I merely posted a random hunch that he feels like a bust. That is all. Yet some of you are spilling your spaghetti as if I posted some wild, slanderous, nonsensical analysis bashing him.

What you offered IS nonsensical: this notion of Gonzalez being a bust owing to a "hunch" you can't or won't explain. Why is that worth posting? Then, you want people to come back in two-four years with evidence of your being right or wrong. It's the message board equivalent of walking around with a "Kick Me" sign on your back.

You wouldn't be taking offense to this if my hunch was that he'd be a first-team All-Pro as a rookie.
