Oh no, what will we ever do without Thornton's sub 100 receiving yards for the season? There are multiple receivers in the league who have produced more in 1 game than Thornton has in all of 2023. It feels like he went to the N'Keal Harry school of receivers! Oh yeah BB picked him, so yes he did! :poop:
We can do so much better than Thornton this upcoming season.

Bill Belichick pulling out all the stops and beating his hated Jets a record 16th time preventing us from being in position for pick 2 or 3 before he moves on is pure Belichickian.

What a pathetic take. What do you expect him to do, intentionally lose as a going away gift to "fans" like you crapping on him?

I will be so damn glad when this rookie savior draft *********** is over with. Nothing is worse than fair-weather types wanting this team to lose for any reason, most of all vs. the Green Scum.

Speaking of fair weather fans, where has Ken been?

Oh C'mon Tune some losses are important.

I am envisioning some offensive risk taking by the Patriots. Like something we haven’t seen: a long pass to Thornton on a go route.

A lot of us will ask, Where has that been the last couple of years?

I think everyone here is all about winning, especially against the Jete. But no denying that losing this one increases the probability of drafting better talent that enhances the likelihood of a better future. Win now or win more later. Neither is a fair weather fan.

Why would these players that are getting turned over lose for you?
Adding loss into your realm of acceptable practices is dangerous. Lose for picks or lose for money from an outside source. Individually, which is better?
Nobody is talking about throwing the game or losing on purpose, it was just about whether a losing season carries over to the next year solely because it creates a losing culture.

Just as a reminder in 93 we 1-11 and had the first pick in the draft. We won several games down the stretch and fell to 4 where we took Willie Mac. The following season we were in the playoffs.

The year before had something similar we could have had Leaf instead of Drew so good thing we didn't win one year but the following year some winning was a good thing.
I think that mainly proves the point, 1 year has nothing to do with the next, having losses, where you actually try to win, don't hurt a franchise in the future. Drafting #4 was because they had a terrible record that year, so they won the opportunity to draft McGinest by losing enough games.
Obviously, a better draft pick is no guarantee thought the higher the pick the better the odds of getting a better player. The main point is if they lose to the Jets while trying to win it will have no bearing on next season's team culture.

We have people here so invested in this moronic rookie savior fantasy that they stopped watching the games once New England was eliminated from playoff contention. Then they dump on BB, Kraft and the players while rooting for losses. They're the fair-weatherest of all and it's nauseating.

Maybe from your limited fan perspective/rationalizing. Try telling that to anyone in the organization. There absolutely is carryover and nothing positive gained by losing.

I agree I am cool with Nix or Penix Jr would be all over Tee Higgins if he's not Tagged in FA.
Brother,

I'm telling you. We are going to sign a nice bridge QB while the new QB gets acclimated to the NFL..

Texans were a 3-win team, Colts a 4-win team last year, Colts lost the last 7 games last year. How come the losing did not carry over?
When 2024 comes along half the players on the Patriots will never have played together, why are they losing because they had losses the year before?
No team in history, purposely lost more than the Colts to get luck, and they went 11-5 the first year after tanking.
Every year is a brand-new year with new players, new schedule. Do players and coaches don't try as hard because the team name lost the year before, they mentally just think, we lost last year so why bother trying?
I just don't follow the reasoning.

Great article in the Providence Journal by Jordan McElroy, “Four Reasons Why the Patriots-Jets Game Ciuld Be the Most Important in Franchise History.”

Excerpts:
For a team that desperately needs a quarterback, losing to the Jets on Sunday would actually benefit the the Pats the most.
An opportunity to draft a top quarterback prospect doesn’t come around often. This is a situation that could potentially impact the team for years to come.
Belichick’s duct-tape approach in 2023 with Riley Reiff, Calvin Anderson, Vederian Lowe and Conor McDermott is proof of those [personnel] issues. It’s time for a systematic change for the Patriots, and it might finally come after Sunday’s game against the Jets.
