Mayo's Coaching Staff [Discuss Coaching Candidates Here!]

Good news.

This is actually one of the guys I was most worried about losing, because the team has done such an incredible job developing cornerbacks over the years. So I am really happy to hear he's coming back. Pellegrino + B.Belichick returning brings stability to the DBs. Covington coached DL and is now the DC, and Mayo was coaching linebackers and is now the HC, so the overall defensive coaching should be pretty consistent, as the guys who used to do it are still here and can pass on their methodology to the guys replacing them.

It's really working out pretty well overall -
1 - we wanted to keep the D fairly continuous (whether it was Steve or Covington, one was going to leave, the other get DC)
---- other than that, Brian B. and Pellegrino staying with an imported DL and likely LB coach (maybe ex-Pat) is a good mix
2 - we wanted a brand new O. Most of us were sick of the re-treads, and we're actually getting a complete blank slate.
---- sure it's a risk, and quite a diverse group of coaches, but as long as AVP can congeal it all together (and not let McAdoo get crazy) it could work out. The WR & TE coach is going to be important to nail.
3 - the Achord era was a disaster overall -
---- Jerry Springer is an unknown, but I hope he gets some help from McAdoo or someone (who has been a HC)

********. The Krafts were in those meeting the form of this Glaser gal. She is their mole and I don’t like the power and influence that she seemingly has already in the organization.

I'm pretty sure Matt Groh was in Mobile when they interviewed AvP in the morning and hired him the same day.

Agree, RG is the attorney handling contracts. Nothing to see here.

She’s the Patriots Executive VP of Football Business. Of course she’s going to be involved in all hires as part of her job.

Why would she have to be the Kraft’s mole? You do realize that the Krafts own the team and have every right to be involved with coaching / team organizational hires? That’s kind of how it works…

If only someone would invent something that would help you see and talk to someone when you are out of town.

To Breer’s point in the video I posted, many teams in the league operate this way now. There’s a person whose role is to assist in financial negotiation and legal paperwork. I’m guessing Bobby Brown will also help to some extent with this in his “administration” type role. Word is that he was the “salary cap guy” for the Texans the last few years.

On the long list of concerns Robyn Glaser is down toward the very bottom. If she is just a Kraft puppet, as you suggest, then you are simply saying Kraft has power and influence in his own football operation which is run by a rookie HC who needs help. Groundbreaking.

I think it would be cool to be a fly on the wall listening to the early offensive coaching meetings. AVP, McAdoo, McCartney and Peters discussing the basic fundamentals of how they envision the offense will look.

Good mix of experienced coaches and ex-players. All on the young side (oldest is AvP - 53).
