Major server upgrade that caused a longer than expected outage. This should put an end to the database errors and many of the other issues that have happened recently. While it was frustrating, everything seems to be working better and faster than before so hopefully it works out much better going forward.

You, sir, are the frickin' man. At least it was that reason for the outage. I started to worry that aliens had abducted the site and... prodded it...

Happily pay the price of much swearing and frustration last night and this morning not knowing what the hell happened, for a new server and faster times!!!! Thanks Ian!

Thanks for the update, and the upgrade! Now, if you please, do you think you could contract the Raiders so I can watch the Patriots on CBS? Two weeks in a row now in "Raider and 49er country" where the Patriots would be on TV here if the Raiders did not exist. Just kidding, but good job on the server upgrade.

Got that odd 504 message...Gateway??? and wasn't sure what was going on...but thanks for the update..and it is always GREAT to have upgrades...seems like it is all better now..and expansion!!! Always doing a super job!!!! MANY cheers for IAN!!!!

Thank you, Ian. This board is a part of a lot of people's lives.

P. S. The name you chose for this thread is very appropriate considering the Pats championship like showing Sunday.

I do operational support/development for a commercial site that has 3 million registered users and about 5000 concurrent users...

upgrades need to take place, have you ever considered posting when these are happening in advance, or having a maintenance page at the front end that gives users an approximate time of return and a reason for the outage...

I know you were hoping to avoid this move, I'm happy things seem to be working out for you - I'll bet Tommy has similar headaches with being so popular! :D

Thanks Ian! Just in time for us to warmly welcome the many Fin-fans who will visit and assure us of a competitive game - especially with Joey taking reps, he was clearing the cream of the pre-season Fin QBs.

grazie Ian - i love this forum

Anyone else still getting this?

The frustrating part was that it was completely unannounced. Had I known it was coming I would have let everyone know and provided an alternate address for updates.

I'll be setting something up just for this reason and will post the information here so that we can be better prepared going forward.

Ian

Those un-announced ones are killers.. :)

especially when the pager goes off @ 4 in the morning....

Thanks, Ian. My morning is not complete without a finish to the boards. I do not know how many times I tried this morning hoping it was my computer and not the boards.

Keep up the good work!

Ian-you're the man. Thanks for keeping the board up and running. Paul

Okay.
Thanks for ALL your efforts.

I don't care about the upgrade ... but it takes an absence like that
to realize that the heart has grown too fond pf Patsfans.com.

just curious, and maybe because i wasnt here in the beginning.... who's server is it? and who pays for stuff like that?
it seems like you guys have a bunch of writers, is this site owned by a newspaper? if im wondering, i cant be the only one.
ive never even heard of molory, ive seen bob george post a couple things here... i see price's blog quite a bit. do these writers work for patsfans.com? i didnt even know there was a "parking lot"; lol which has stupidly hot chicks.
lol i just went to the "home page" to try to answer my own questions, where ive never been, and i couldnt even get back here!

Too fond? Is that possible?
Ian is the man.

The server and all the software is paid for by me, so no we're not owned by a newspaper. It's owned by a fan and run by fans. We have a lot of terrific contributing writers along with a column every Tueday with former Patriot Steve Grogan, and he also appears on local radio every Monday morning (http://www.wheb.com).

As far as the home page is concerned, the forum link is listed under "Interactive" in the drop down menu, with recent forum posts appearing at the top of the main page.

Hope this answers some of your questions :D
