Welker and Mankins

I feel no sympathy for Welker. He's played the last 2 years of a playoff team, catching passes from Peyton, and had a chance at a Super Bowl last year. Plus, he's kind of a douche.

Mankins, on the other hand, got dealt a bad hand. To start the year on the eventual champion and get traded on the eve of the season to the worst team in the NFL sucks. He remained a class act the entire way. Pour one out for the man.

Are the 2014 Patriots still champions with both men on the team? Who knows. At this point I would take Amendola over Welker. I would imagine Mankins to be an improvement over Connolly/Wendell, but then again, I got some bad memories of Mankins in Super Bowls.

Welker and Mankins are two different situations. Mankins had value and was traded. Welker had less value and left.

I liked Mankins more.

Mankins had a tendency to get owned in big games

Mankins and Welker were great Patriots while they were with us. Sorry they were not able to win a SB during their years here. Wish both of them great success on the field, except when the Pats are the opponents.

Precisely
I feel magnanimous in winning. Really could not care less about Mankins or Welker not being part of it as they as well as TFB and many others had excellent opportunities when here to win a ring. Were they here this season in some alternate universe, that would be fine. Wish them well. Really hope WWW retires for health reasons. He certainly must have enough money.

Mankins, my favorite player for a number of years, played his worst games (by far) on the biggest stage. Andy Johnson is correct. Those heart-breaking losses to the Giants turned on a couple of plays; both players were in negative deficits when it counted most. Wendell and Connolly played a better game than the two Mankins played in. Wendell in SB 49 outplayed the borderline HOF Mankins by a big amt in his two. Belichick was right to do what he did.

Instead of feeling sorry for these former players, we should be celebrating the ones we still have. And I put Wendell near the head of the class. He makes the most of his abilities and sets the bar high for the guys around him who are bigger and more talented. He helped make Mankins expendable.
