I think it has to do with the date that signing Keller wouldn't count against us when determining Compensatory Picks from the NFL.
Or maybe Jermichael Finley?
We desperately need some more depth there. The TE depth on the team after Gronkowski is pitiful.
I really hope so. We desperately need some more depth there. The TE depth on the team after Gronkowski is pitiful. They need another veteran presence.
Its even less than that if the Pats decide that they won't be using 2 TE's as a major formation this year.Disagree. It isn 't pitiful, it is just a tad below average for the NFL.
I doubt BB would time a signing according to something as insignificant as when comp picks are calculated. Timing a cut...sure. To spread out the cap hit. But delay a signing to maybe get a higher day 3 pick? Nah.
If Keller isn't signed yet I think the best case scenario would be that it's to give him more time to heal. Or worst case, it ain't gonna happen, period.

It's all speculation, but I disagree. It wouldn't be a consideration in a significant signing, as we saw with Revis, Browner and LaFell. But it's not worth giving up a draft pick for the chance to sign a bubble player who is far from certain to make the team, and who would be likely to still be around after June 1.
